| | Squeeze Greatest Hits CD Squeeze Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
This set charts Squeeze's course from their late '70s beginnings through the sadly overlooked FRANK in 1989. While all these selections weren't bona fide hits, they were all released as singles and certainly should have been chart-toppers. Leaders Difford and Tilbrook know how to craft true pop gems (and the Beatle comparisons they received are more than warranted), with hooks that manage to be innovative in sometimes subtle ways--"Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" being a case in point. That these twenty songs possess the familiarity of warmly remembered hits even if they're a new experience for the listener says much about the high level of writing, arranging and playing skills that characterize this blue chip ensemble.

Greatest Hits album
$18.05 Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This highly charged album of historical musical artifacts documents the very beginning of Johnny Otis' recording career. With one apparently unobtainable exception, the Classics Blues & Rhythm Series has assembled ...

Greatest Hits CD music
$14.15 Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York, New York on November 27-28, 1969.
Returning to the American concert scene after a three-year layoff, the Rolling Stones recorded GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! during a triumphant two-date stand at Madison Square Garden in late November 1969 that found B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner opening for them. Having amassed an impressive recorded output during their three years away from touring, the Stones peppered their sets with hits, including "Honky Tonk Women," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and ...

| | Leon Russell (1st LP) CD (1970)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$8.85 Principally recorded at Olympic Sound, London, England from September to October 1969.
Leon Russell's 1970 self-titled debut appeared when he was 30 years old and a veteran of countless sessions--as player, arranger, producer, and writer.
Opening with the gorgeous and frequently covered ballad, "A Song for You," he then jumps into a stew of New Orleans, gospel, bluesy rock & roll. The songs were all written or co-written by Russell (with the exception of the CD's bonus track, Bob Dylan's "Master of War"). This mix of music, all held together by Russell's drawled and friendly vocals, would prove successful for his follow-up album (AND THE SHELTER PEOPLE), and for his role as bandleader for Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour. Deservedly, this album has remained of the most enduring in Leon Russell's fine catalog.
