The wistful electronic pop duo the Beloved (Steve Waddington and vocalist Jon Marsh) released a moderately successful debut album Happiness in 1990. Following the lead of successful European dance-pop bands like the Pet Shop Boys and American dance divas like Paula Abdul, the Beloved capitalized on their initial success (which was greater in Europe than in America) by releasing an album of remixes. Blissed Out, also released in 1990, is made up almost entirely of remixes of tunes from the first album, though it does contain two tracks ("Pablo" and "It's Alright Now") that didn't appear on Happiness. Since the new songs are far from spectacular, most of Blissed Out's appeal comes from the new mixes of the Beloved's dancefloor hits like "Hello," "Your Love Takes Me Higher," and the rave classic "The Sun Rising." Blissed Out isn't the best introduction to the music of the Beloved (Happiness fits the bill just fine) and the group's fans might find the album redundant, but Blissed Out is a decent collection, and the remixes are interesting. Fans of the genre should find it appealing. ~ William Cooper
1991 corollary of the group's debut album "Happiness" that presents a selection of remixes, alt and previously unreleased versions of songs from that set. Some appeared on singles, others are unique to this disc. Many of these mixes helped set the bar for numerous chilled out tracks that would follow in their wake. It's a wonderfully amazing perspective given to the group's regular album. Beloved Blissed Out Songs Purchase Blissed Out CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Cars CD (1978)

Ric Ocasek's songs were influenced by the Velvet Underground and the punk rock movement, but had a slick pop/rock sheen which proved very successful. After a demo version of "Just What I Needed" became a listener favorite on WBCN in Boston (the bands' homebase), they were pursued by record companies. THE CARS was recorded in 2 weeks in London, England.
This ranks as one of the best debut albums from a rock band. The Cars are filed under rock, but they are closer to power pop than any other genre. Ric Ocasek sounded like a cross between the Raspberries and Television, punk sound with a pop attitude. The giveaway was the irresistible harmony-ridden hooks in just about every one of his songs. Listen again to "You're All I've Got Tonight," "Just What I Needed" or "My Best Friend's Girl" and be thrilled. Lots of chunka chunka guitar and Mamas And Papas harmonies, and rarely a dull moment. They managed only six albums in 20 years, ...
| | Everything But The Girl Walking Wounded CD (1996)
Blissed Out CD music
$5.95 Ben and Tracey went clubbing last night and decided to go straight from the dance floor to the studio. They emerge with WALKING WOUNDED, an album that features Tracey's plaintive vocals backed by layers of electronic percussion. Tracey's soul-baring singing pulls you into the songs--we ride with her atop waves of drum beats and dreamy orchestrations in dance styles that vary from jungle to hip-hop to house. The combination brings about an interesting sensation: The beats move your feet while her wistful voice eases you into a state of relaxation. Melody and melancholy are wrapped together in these dance-sized pieces. So are crossover and hit: In Europe, a remix ...

$7.49 Madonna's remake of "Fever," from the album Erotica, was released as a single in Europe (hence the review of this French import) but in the U.S. was relegated to the B-side of "Bad Girl." "Fever" did, however, top the American dance charts. The U.S. maxi-single of "Bad Girl" contains most the tracks on this ...

$14.05 After a number of singles and EPs, British electronica duo Zero 7 made their full-length debut with 2001's SIMPLE THINGS, an inspired fusion of loungey electronica a la the French duo Air and the more assertive trip-hop of Massive Attack and Tricky. At its heart, SIMPLE THINGS has all the same elements that many ...

| | Louis Armstrong Pete Fountain Presents The Best Of Dixieland CD (2001)
Blissed Out music CDs
$9.89 Recorded between 1927 and 1958. Includes liner notes by Pete Fountain and Will Friedwald.
Digitally remastered by Kevin Reeves (Universal Music Studios-East) and Phil Schaap.
Pete Fountain has spent a lifetime playing and promoting Dixieland jazz, making it possible for people who otherwise have little awareness of it to cop a casual taste and enjoy the thrill of New Orleans polyphony. Fountain's Best of Dixieland series includes reissues of his own work and that of Al Hirt as well as a superb anthology of traditional jazz clarinetists. Fountain's Louis Armstrong volume focuses mainly on Armstrong's live recordings from the '40s and '50s, with the 1927 "Weary Blues" and a 1936 "Mahogany Hall Stomp" thrown in for historical ballast. This is a nice little introduction to Louis Armstrong. It features his trumpet, which is more than can be said for some compilations which fixate upon his twilight years as a beloved vocalist. This is a taste. This is only a taste. And there are hundreds more great Louis Armstrong performances where these came from. ~ arwulf arwulf
