| | Scorpions Hot & Slow: Best Masters Of The 70'S CD Scorpions Discography of CDs
17 track collection of their early years with 'Speedy's Coming', 'Fly to the Rainbow', 'In Trance', 'Dark Lady', 'Robot Man', 'Pictured Life', 'Virgin Killer', and more
The Blackout and Love at First Sting Scorpions are obviously the best known -- when they ruled the MTV airwaves and arenas worldwide due to such snappy hits as "No One Like You" and "Rock You Like a Hurricane." But as longtime fans will attest, the group was a veteran act by that point, having already released quite a few albums (which had slipped under the radar for many). And for those who aren't aware of this era, these albums were a lot heavier than the more melodic direction the group later specialized in, as evidenced throughout the 17-track import collection Hot & Slow: Best Masters of the 70's. As its title suggests, the band has been splitting its time between rockers and more tranquil fare since the beginning. "Speedy's Coming" (which contains some quite silly lyrics -- "You like Alice Cooper/You like Ringo Starr/You like David Bowie/And friends in the Royal Albert Hall") and "Virgin Killer" represent the "Hot," while "In Trance" and "Fly to the Rainbow" represent the "Slow." Also of note are the exceptional guitar skills of Uli Jon Roth, who was subsequently name-checked by quite a few metal guitarists as a prime influence. Hot & Slow: Best Masters of the 70's is a fine comp of early Scorpions. ~ Greg Prato

Hot & Slow: Best Masters Of The 70'S album
$10.69 This package contains the original MACHINE HEAD plus quadrophonic mixes of 2 songs on one disc, MACHINE HEAD remixed by Roger Glover in 1998, and a 28 page booklet.
A probable contender for one of hard rock's "all-time most influential albums," Deep Purple's MACHINE HEAD has all the markings of a heavy classic. It was here that the band's combination of amped-up blues, progressive instrumental prowess, screaming guitars, and thunderous rhythms was crystallized for the ages, helping to lay the foundation for hard rock and heavy metal throughout the '70s, '80s, and '90s. The lone presence of "Smoke on the Water" immediately elevates the album to essential status. The song became a long-running radio staple, and boasts one of the most instantly recognizable guitar riffs in rock history.
Yet the rest of the album holds up impressively, from the adrenaline-soaked opener "Highway Star," in which organist Jon Lord and guitarist Richie Blackmore trade off dazzling solos, to the churning "Space Truckin'," another riff-driven rocker. Vocalist Ian Gillian, whose dramatic, soaring tenor set the mold ...
| | Rainbow Rising CD (1976) Remastered
Hot & Slow: Best Masters Of The 70'S CD music
$7.29 As the drums kick into the fierce opener "Tarot Woman," it's obvious that RISING delivers directly to your door. It is the band's second release, and a vast improvement over RICHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW. With a revamped lineup that sounds like it had been touring together for years, the album takes no prisoners. "Starstruck" is a classic groove reminiscent of guitarist Blackmore's ex-band Deep Purple. Blackmore replaced everyone from the first album's lineup except ...

Hot & Slow: Best Masters Of The 70'S music CDs
$6.49 Released in 1978, LONG LIVE was the final Ronnie James Dio-fronted release by Rainbow. Dio would go on to front Black Sabbath, while guitarist Richie Blackmore would reunite with Deep Purple. The album caps off a string of tremendous releases from one of the strongest branches on the heavy-metal family tree.
The title track is a fan favorite and one of the strongest tunes from this era--a heavy rock tune written ...

| | Bloodjinn Leave This World Breathing CD (2003)
Hot & Slow: Best Masters Of The 70'S music CDs
$10.89 North Carolina's Bloodjinn, on its second full-length, tackles the East Coast metalcore sound: a mixture of '80s thrash metal, groove-laden meat-and-potatoes N.Y.C. hardcore, and big, bloody chunks of Slayer -- a sound more convincingly and engagingly embraced by predecessors Botch and (early) Cave-In, as well as contemporaries Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall. In other words, Leave This World Breathing is a well-executed, ...

Hot & Slow: Best Masters Of The 70'S album
$19.99 "Carptree plays some sort of melancholic, laid back and delightful symphonic pop with a large amount of originality and accuracy. If i was asked to describe them i had to say they partly sound familliar to another Swedish duo called Dive. Mix a little bit of them with Hogarth era Marillion albums like Brave and Afraid Of Sunlight and ad some pinches of Talk Talk (Laughing Stock era) and maybe a little portion of the more progresive side of David Sylvian! The above may sound like a strange combination, but with a unique band like Carptree it really comes to reality! All songs are very well performed and are presented with a tasteful production and brilliant vocals. Don´t be afraid to try them out cause with songs like Ten Days Of Rain, Give Myself Away, Looking For Something and Tiny Salty Drops you can´t be disappointed.Carptree is a band people will talk about, so be sure you know what the people are talking about..."/Stefan Polzer/Rivendell/March 2001/"...but in the case of Carptree my ears are excited, here is an own expression with something to say. Carl Westholm and Niclas Flinck fortunately doesn´t copy the Yes and Genesis school with mighty things for ...
