This album is part of Wakeman's "Suntrilogy" of new age keyboard relaxation music. All of the pieces are slow, gentle, melodic, and peaceful. There isn't any of Wakeman's characteristic complexity or virtuosity here, but the albums fulfill their stated purpose. (Wakeman donated part of the proceeds from these three albums to the Council for the Protection of Rural England.) ~ Stephen Raiteri
While some of Rick Wakeman's travels into new age music have relinquished some spiritedness, the same cannot be said for Aspirant Sunrise, a somewhat clichéd and inactive expedition into the realm of relaxation. Used as a means to bring musical enlightenment to a world filled with tension, Wakeman's delicate keyboard playing trails off into mundane electronic runs, short of his usual instrumental adeptness. Even though his attempts at conjuring up tranquilizing motifs are apparent, they tend to imitate other run-of-the-mill new age albums and are void of his trademarked keyboard style. Tracks such as "Dewy Morn" and "When Time Stood Still" offer up the best hint of his artistry, teased with some interesting synthesizer meanderings. The rest of the songs are bright in nature, but would have been bettered by some escalating rhythms or slight time changes within the realm of Wakeman's conceptual intentions. Aspirant Sunrise is the first in a two-part set (the other being Aspirant Sunshadows) meant to be played at the end of a stress-filled day. ~ Mike DeGagne Rick Wakeman Aspirant Sunrise Songs | 1. | Thoughts of Love |

Aspirant Sunrise
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is to Dylan-philes.
DREAMS' strengths are considerable. First and foremost, the box contains nearly five wall-to-wall ...

Aspirant Sunrise
$15.29 This compilation contains 38 songs, including many new remixes from original master tapes, 6 previously unreleased songs, alternate versions of 3 others, and a comprehensive 36 page booklet, with historic liner notes and photos.
This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The ...

| | Breeders Pod CD (1990)
Aspirant Sunrise
$9.29 Somewhat unhappy with their roles as second bananas in their respective groups, Kim Deal (bassist of the Pixies) and Tanya Donelly (guitarist of the Throwing Muses) struck out on their own. The result, after hiring Josephine Wiggs (bassist from the seriously underrated Perfect Disaster) and ex-Slint drummer Britt Walford (who took the name Shannon Doughton for his Breeders-related recordings), was the album POD, which was released in 1990 to great success. A very short record (12 songs in just under 30 minutes), it is a jagged, barbed affair that clearly shows its creators pedigrees.
The record's immediately obvious standout is the cover of the Beatles' ...

The cast is different--only Breeders ...

| | Mitch Kashmar Wake Up And Worry CD (2006)
Aspirant Sunrise
$13.79 Mitch Kashmar is an established West Coast harmonica veteran who has been knocking around for several decades but first made a dent on the international blues scene with his 2005 Delta Groove debut, Nickels & Dimes. As if to make up for lost time, he followed it up a year later with Wake Up and Worry, another solid blast of left coast swinging blues. Ignore the cartoonish and rather garish cover of a groggy Kashmar in a bathrobe surrounded by scantily clad models and dive into the disc for a rollicking jump blues party. Kashmar has a surprisingly compelling and distinctive voice, but it's his astounding harp work that propels this music. Sure, there is plenty of Little Walter's overdriven electrified blowing in his style -- he covers both "Dead Presidents" and Walter's "Up the Line" -- but Kashmar puts his individual stamp on this sizzling music. Blues fans familiar with Little Charlie & the Nightcats will want to own this as well, since Kashmar works comparable territory. The harpist/singer takes a break from his jaunty style for "I'm Sorry," a jazzy R&B ballad with female backing singers and some tasty guitar lines from John Marx. Elsewhere, Rusty Zinn and Junior Watson, two of the finest West Coast guitarists, add their energy and talent to an album that has no low points. Those who remember the late William Clarke will also gravitate toward this as Kashmar works a similar groove and possesses the same combination of nimbleness and attitude that characterized Clarke at his finest. The album's closing instrumental shuffle of "The Waddle" will leave any blues fan impressed with its thick, gooey solos but the entire disc is one of the finest contemporary blues harp albums of the year. If Kashmar can maintain the quality and pace of this output, he should find belated fame as the master of the instrument he obviously is. ~ Hal Horowitz
