| | Guy: Special Edition CDs (1988) Special Edition
Dance Lady Dance CD music
$17.19 This pivotal 1988 album combined old-school soul with the then-new art form of rapping, creating a whole new urban-music hybrid. Released almost 20 years later, this special edition contains six bonus tracks, and allows the public to rediscover the scintillating vocal harmonies of Guy.
One of the most seminal and influential releases of late '80s, Guy's self-titled debut album did more than its part to popularize new jack swing, a style that would soon become inescapable on urban contemporary radio. Teddy Riley didn't actually invent new jack swing with Guy -- he'd already gotten the ball rolling on Keith Sweat's 1987 debut Make It Last Forever -- but this album did more than any other to make it so incredibly popular in the R&B world. With their tough blend of hip-hop, R&B, and Gap Band-influenced funk, hits like "Groove Me" and "Teddy's Jam" defined new jack swing and served as the blueprint for countless new jack recordings in the late '80s and early to mid-'90s. One shameless Guy clone after another would pop up on urban radio, the vast majority of whom weren't even a fraction as inventive as Riley's ...

Dance Lady Dance CD music
$13.65 Welcome to the world of blues - that irresistible form of African - American Music that has captured the hearts of millions over the century. Listen to the historic live recordings of Ezell and Buster and the glorious harmony of the Golden Jubilee Quartet.Music is the language of the soul, expressing the deepest feelings and emotions in a manner that is difficult to ignore. No medium expresses the intensity of emotional upheavals as does music and few people have experienced the turmoil as the African slaves did when they were unceremoniously displaced from their homeland and sold into slavery in a strange land. It isn't surprising then, that some of the most moving musical compositions have come from the hearts and lips of African Americans. One form of music that originated in the South is the "blues", with its characteristic high-pitched notes and a three-line textual stanza of the form AAB, and a 12-measure form. Typically the first two and a half measures of each line are devoted to singing, the last measure and a half, consisting of an instrumental "break" that repeats, answers, or complements the vocal line. Drawing heavily on the rhythmic call and response pattern of African music, the repetitious style in the stanzas and the imitation of vocal idioms by instruments, especially the guitar and harmonica, blues bring to mind the African origins of this soulful music. The credit for popularizing blues goes to W.C. Handy whose 1912 composition 'Memphis Blues' gained immense popularity and set the ball rolling. This CD contains 39 fabulous Blues sung mostly by Ezell and Buster at the folk festival at Fort Valley State College (now Fort Valley State University), Fort Valley, Georgia. This CD contains live recordings of blues from the folk festival at Fort Valley State College (now Fort Valley State University), Fort Valley, Georgia. All the songs on this CD are presented in the original format and thus carry an immense historic value as well. EDITORIAL REVIEWFew forms of music touch the heart, as do the blues - with their mournful repetitions and moving lyrics that were born out of the turbulent experiences of black slaves. So undeniable is the lure of this form that several other forms of music have drawn inspiration from it in varying measures. Blues and jazz are closely related and such influential exponents of Jazz as Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong used blues freely in their music. Soul music, rhythm and even Rock music have not escaped its influence. The great depression and the two global conflicts played a major role in the spread of Blues as the African Americans from the southern states spread across the country and the globe. With this globalization also came several modifications to this primarily solo-artist form of music. Blue lyrics were adapted to suit urban tastes and the lone guitar or harmonica was joined by the piano and several other instruments. This CD takes you back to the days ...
| | Zetaboo Outerrail CD (2006) (Import)
Dance Lady Dance music CDs
$24.25 The sounds in ZetaBoo’s new album are rich and down to earth. With spontaneity and intuition, Jarmo Saari has composed songs that are melodical and folky. Marko Timonen provides brilliant, swinging percussion. It’s the rhythm that comes through in the music of Outerrail. The band comes over relaxed and swinging.ZetaBoo’s Outerrail album continues the band’s individual and inventive approach, but is more subtle than their previous releases. The theme of the disc is the outer rail and homesickness. Outerrail meanders off the tracks and at the same time goes deeper within. "This is like a series of traveller’s landscapes. The journey is more important than arriving. The traveller prefers to follow a flitting butterfly or the advice of a stranger than a ...
