"Drastic Plastic" was co-produced by John Leckie and was a pre-emptor for Bill Nelson’s Red Noise albums. Nelson's affection for Japan competes for space with paeans to electrical communication, resulting in brilliant tracks such as "Electrical Language", "New Mysteries" and "Surreal Estate". At times charming and even romantic.

Guitarist/leader Bill Nelson has always had his head in a space that's defined by the 1950s World's Fair idea of the future - a world of monorails and strange machines. This is particularly evident here, with Nelson's affection for Japan competing for space with paeans to electrical communication. The Be Bop Swan Song
Yes, sadly, this was the final album for Bill Nelson & Be Bop Deluxe. Also, on a sad note, is the fact that the CD re-issue of "Drastic Plastic" did not include the song "Japan". While maybe not one of their best song, should have been included at the very least. The best part of the re-issue is the inclusion of "Autosexual", a terrific B-side that once appeared on the vinyl version of "Best & The Rest Of...". "Drastic Plastic" made use of the synth, much more than any of its' predecessors, but still a great album and an obvious hint as to what was to come with Nelson Red Noise album a year later.

The Motor City Brass Quintet’s debut recording has been, to say the least, a long time coming—certainly (but not solely) in its artistic concept. As such, it has afforded the MCBQ a wealth of discovery along the way. Perhaps the most insightful artistic lesson can be summarized with a new adage, based on the age-old chicken-and-egg riddle: What comes first, the album or the arrangements? Well, both, we now say. This probably is no riddle, but rather a goal toward which we’ve dutifully trudged: find great quintet arrangements we love to play, and unify them in a narrowly-themed collection that stands in whole even greater than the sum of its wonderful parts.And so we present our whole: Christmas Vespers; a collection of our favorite Yuletide music; and various tunes heard in assorted contexts each December, yet commonly programmed side-by-side, sacred and secular, in churches’ candle-lit musical celebrations of the Advent, the Vespers service.McGregor’s lush carol arrangements evoke an all-congregation sing-along with booming pipe organ, and Hansinger’s Carol of the Bells imitates a handbell choir, echoing through the depths of an old, resonant church.
