the best david bowie album.
this album is a masterpiece. for me, it is the best david bowie album ever. the music is timeless. has no contact with the present world. it sounds like the future. i've never heard such an amazing, weird, deep and emotional record since the beatles' white album. it seems to me as one of the greatest albums ever. "the music is outside...it's happening outside"... from the title track, reveals all the clues of this magnificent work.

Bowie Outside
'OUTSIDE' is definately the most dark and manacing album that Bowie has made to date. It is a concept album consisting of 19 (yes 19!) tracks. The sleeve must be read to fully appreciate the music, the album being described as "a non-linear Gothic Drama hyper-cycle". The story involves five characters to which the album provides five 'story telling' (segue) tracks by Bowie enacting these characters. The central figure being detective professor Nathan Adler. OUTSIDE provides a shifting landscape of 'industrial' sound with tracks such as "The Hearts Filthy Lesson", "Hallo Spaceboy", "I'm Deranged" and "Thru These Architects Eyes" being Bowie at his very best. The albums darkest tracks include "The Motel", "A Small Plot Of Land", "We Prick You" and "Wishful Beginnings" which is very dark. Definately an album to buy, Bowie fan or not !

Serious as a conceptual heart attack
This 1995 album is not one of Bowie's brighter albums, but it is certainly one of the most interesting - dark and futuristic. The music varies wildly in style, from industrial rock to theater balladry to instrumentals which advance the concept of the album, that concept being the state of affairs at the dawn of the Internet Age and uncertainty about the coming millennial year. Bowie's vocals are controlled and practically flawless. One of the best features of the album is that throughout, you can hear splashes of fantastic "Aladdin Sane" piano. If you are Bowie fan, you will probably like this. If you like concept albums, like Linkin Park's "A Thousand Suns", give it a try. And the album reminds me to some extent of Billy Idol's 1993 album "Cyberpunk".

A Treasure
Outside is Bowie's most emotionally disturbing yet magnetic album. It covers themes that would make you think you're in another fantasy world altogether. A bonus disk includes remixes of some of the album tracks, most notably the Pet Shop Boys remixes of Hallo Spaceboy. Brain Eno is at the production line to ensure some great ethereal moments.

Hallo Spaceboys, I'm someone your mother once knew.
'OUTSIDE' is essentially the Bowie manifesto - a gathering together of exactly what makes him tick on one, rather long, album. 'Diamond Dogs' era themes collide with 'Low' trilogy experimentalism, tumbling piano, SCI-FI, cut-ups, the odd 'Station To Station' cold funk moment and, as always, a keen eye on the contemporary music scene (somewhere between Tricky and Nine Inch Nails). 'OUTSIDE successfully echoes the Bowie past, acknowledges the presnt (1995) and points to a future where albums are less a collection of songs and more of a dense chaos of various art-forms thrown together in a gorgeously random fashion.
