Say what you will about Traffic, Blind Faith, and his ongoing solo career, but when Steve Winwood leaves this earth, the song every radio and TV station will play in his memory will be "Gimme Some Lovin'." And for good reason: this single is a stone classic, the best two-and-a-half minutes British R&B ever produced, and yes, that includes the early singles by the Rolling Stones.
The amazing thing was not that this skinny, spotty 16-year-old from the Midlands sounded just like Ray Charles, but that Winwood and his mates nearly matched the potency of that single not once, but twice, with the stunning "I'm A Man" and the ska-inflected burner "Keep On Runnin'." All three singles are the highlights of this 15-song compilation, which features b-sides, rarities, and solid album tracks alongside all of the group's magnificent mid '60s singles.
Many regard the mid-60's Davis Group as the best R&B group ever. Davis had recruited a very youthful Steven Winwood on keyboards and vocals, who was a popular favorite with their audiences. Includes the hits 'Gimme Some Lovin', 'I'm A Man', 'Keep On Running', 'Back Into My Life Again' and more.
A collection of 14 tracks by acclaimed British invasion band, Spencer Davis Group, featuring such songs as "Gimme Some Lovin', "Keep on Running," and "I'm a Man."
Spencer Davis Group includes: Spencer Davis (drums); Steve Winwood (vocals, keyboards); Muff Winwood (bass).

$11.65 EVERCLEAR, AMC's finest hour and one the '90s' most powerful albums, is simultaneously lush and searing, heartache and despair borne out in elegant arrangements that combine fragile prettiness and soul-baring howls of pain. Multi-instrumentalist Bruce Kaphan rose to the occasion ...

Best Of (FT Steve Winwood) album
$15.25 Truth be told, the Trembling Blue Stars routine was getting kind of stale by the release of Seven Autumn Flowers in 2004. With that album they crossed the line that divides reliable and predictable; no longer did the morose lyrics, melancholy vocals, minor chords and cheesy synths make a positive impression. Luckily for fans of the band, The Last Holy Writer is a comeback of sorts, certainly an improvement, and maybe even one of their finest records. How did they do it? It's hard to say because on the surface it seems like not much has changed sound or mood-wise. There's still a preponderance of downbeat lyrics and Bob Wratten hasn't suddenly traded in his mope for a smile, no fear of that anytime soon. The building blocks of their sound are mostly the same too. What makes a difference here is a boost in the overall energy level from unrelenting gloom to mostly sad, a slightly expanded sonic palette that makes room for field recordings and a wider range of drum ...

| | WCBS FM-101 History Of Rock: For Lovers Only Vol. 3. CD (1993)
Best Of (FT Steve Winwood) music CDs
$12.95 Collectables' four-volume For Lovers Only series is an enjoyable, if unexceptional, set that collects some of the most romantic pop, R&B, and doo wop singles from the late '50s and early '60s. Somewhat confusingly, it came in two different versions. There's a "general" version, and then there is a version of the set that is presented as if the play list of New York's WCBS dictated the selections. However, there is no difference between the corresponding volumes. WCBS' third volume, just like the third volume of the general set, contains ...

$17.09 RUTH WALLIS was born in Brooklyn, New York. She studied dancing, voice and piano, so it was only natural that she would pursue a career in show business. After high school, the teenager sang in both the Isham Jones and Benny Goodman (briefly) orchestras. Starting in 1948, she recorded risque songs for Deluxe Records. She went on to form the Wallis Original Record Corp., her own company based in Linden, New Jersey. Unlike many other party records, which could barely afford more than a singer and a piano, ...
