| | Hall & Oates Marigold Sky CD Hall & Oates Discography of CDs
Hall & Oates, once synonymous with trendsetting, radio-friendly eighties pop music, join forces again after years of mostly solo experimentation. The result is an exciting comeback album of pure pop which is occasionally reminiscent of the duo's best early-eighties hits, but which also incorporates new sounds. Check out the exotic, Indian-influenced percussion on "Marigold Sky," Dave Stewart's Eurythmic-style wailing guitar on "Romeo is Bleeding" and "Love Out Loud," and the hints of hip-hop rhythms scattered throughout. This is Hall & Oates nineties style, turning their smooth, soul-flavored harmonies in a more contemporary direction. The lyrics of "Time Won't Pass Me By" seem especially appropriate: "I think the sun was in my eyes/This time the time won't pass me by/Lucky on the second try/This time the time won't pass me by."
The album was originally released in 1997, from the smooth soul-pop duo. A well-made album featuring 13 tracks including 1 bonus track, 'Hold On To Yourself' (Remix). Eagle Rock. 2005.

Marigold Sky
$10.49 FROM LUXURY TO HEARTACHE is a 13-track release by U.K. pop quartet Culture Club, featuring "Move Away," "I Pray," and "Gusto Blusto."
For their fourth album, From Luxury to Heartache, Culture Club jettisoned producer Steve Levine in favor of pop/R&B veteran Arif Mardin, seeking to reverse the commercial decline they had suffered with their third album. When the danceable leadoff track, "Move Away," rose into the singles chart, that seemed like a good decision, and the rest of the album followed through with a pronounced drum sound and a relentless beat. The group's flamboyance was played down in an attempt to redefine Culture Club as dancefloor favorites. But previously the group had enjoyed a broad-based pop appeal, and by focusing on one part of their constituency, they ultimately sacrificed the rest. What's more, to make this kind of music, you didn't need ...

Marigold Sky
$15.39 Can't Stop Dreaming has a rather tangled release history. It was originally issued in Japan in 1999 on the BMG International label, and in 2003 it appeared in America but missing two tracks. Anyway, as those who witnessed the resurgence of Hall & Oates will attest, Hall has never sounded better. His vocal range is all that it once was and more. He is still, along with his main collaborator, Alan Gorrie from the Average White Band, a talented pop songwriter -- though admittedly pop music itself has changed by its ...

$14.59 Upon the release of MOTHERSHIP in 2007, almost three decades after their demise, Led Zeppelin arguably stood as the only other band in rock history to merit space with the Beatles in the greatest-of-all-time debate. While the latter practically invented the how-to guide for composing and recording modern pop, Zeppelin taught the machinery how to rock with a seismic bravado that decades latter still rattles foundations. In the post-Zeppelin era, rock became a synonym for a heaviness intended to both inspire awe and knock you flat with its weight.
The first six Led Zeppelin records contain nary a less-than-stellar track and define perfection as a canon; yet adequately compiling bits and pieces of this remarkable run has always eluded the band. Though this collection is no substitute for the first six records, MOTHERSHIP succeeds as a greatest hits retrospective on two levels: one, as an introduction for neophytes who want all the band's signature songs, and two, as a sound upgrade for completists. (In fact, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones themselves are all given production credit on these blistering remasters.) While many extraordinary gems--"Going to California," "Battle Of Evermore," and "Your Time Is Gonna Come," among them--are left out, no reasonable Zep head can argue with the cuts that are included, from "Communication Breakdown" and "Black Dog" to "Dancing Days," "Kashmir," and "Achilles' Last Stand." In the end, MOTHERSHIP works as a stirring lecture in Zeppelin 101.
