Released in 1998, Ian Brown's first solo album, UNFINISHED MONKEY BUSINESS, finds the ex-Stone Roses frontman alternately attempting to escape the shadow of his lauded former band, and conjuring up its groove-loving ghost. The disc's shimmering first single, "My Star," recalls the Beatles (via Oasis), and showcases Brown's raspy croon; while the acoustic, chill-out vibe of "Corpses in Their Mouths" makes it one of the record's pleasant surprises. "Can't See Me," on the other hand, sounds exactly like what it is--a Stone Roses song without guitarist John Squire, with the Manchester group's bassist (Mani) and drummer (Reni) sitting in to create a funk-tinged tune that wouldn't have been out of place on SECOND COMING. Although some of the lo-fi experimentation here (see the noisy "Lions") proves to be a bit distracting, UNFINISHED MONKEY BUSINESS reveals a potential that the Madchester icon would follow through with on later outings, particularly MUSIC OF THE SPHERES.
Debut Solo CD From Ex-Stone Roses Vocalist. Tracks Include: My Star, Lions, Nah Nah, Sunshine, Ice Cold Cube, Deep Pile Dreams And More.
Composers: Ian Brown; Aziz Ibrahim.
Personnel: Ian Brown (acoustic guitar, harmonica, keyboards); Aziz Ibrahim (guitar, drums); Nigel Ippinson (keyboards). Unfinished Monkey Business Music Unfinished Monkey Business Music Unfinished Monkey Business Review

Unfinished Monkey Business album
$8.85 The first Verve album, A STORM IN HEAVEN, was released in 1993, prior to some legal wrangling necessitating the addition of the definite article to the band's name. Appearing in the wake of the commercial success of the "shoegazer" ...
| | Cure Join The Dots: B-Sides & Rarities, 1978-2001 CDs (2004) Remastered
Unfinished Monkey Business CD music
$38.29 Recorded between 1978 & 2001. Includes liner notes by Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, and Johnny Black.
A remarkable four-disc set of B-sides and rarities, JOIN THE DOTS serves as a sort of alternate history for the Cure, one of the world's most beloved post-punk/alt-rock bands. Painstakingly compiled by Cure frontman (and the group's only constant member) Robert Smith, DOTS provides dozens of glimpses into the literal flip-side of their singles by collecting many long-lost tracks, including the classic songs previously featured only on the cassette version of STARING AT THE SEA: THE SINGLES.

| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
Unfinished Monkey Business music CDs
$15.25 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009) (Import)
Unfinished Monkey Business songs
$14.69 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara ...
| | Muse Resistance CD (2009)
Unfinished Monkey Business album
$15.65 With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen, its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery from rock opera. It's also the first time that Muse has truly sounded like Muse, as few bands since Queen have so readily explored ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Unfinished Monkey Business CD music
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield ...
| | Denny Zeitlin Cathexis/Carnival CD (1997)
Unfinished Monkey Business music CDs
$10.59 Since the 1960s, pianist Denny Zeitlin's recording career has been erratic due to his concentration on his full-time psychiatric practice, so the reissue of some of his earliest recordings will hopefully satisfy fans who haven't had anything new to acquire since his 1992 Live at Maybeck Recital Hall. This two-fer, Cathexis/Carnival, finds bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Frederick Waites ...

| | Adicts Sound Of Music CD (1982) (Import) Import; Canada
Unfinished Monkey Business album
$17.75 Like the Undertones, Buzzcocks, and the Ramones, the Adicts' albums (and singles) have been filled with hook-laden pop-punk songs that are hard to ignore. Unlike the Undertones, Buzzcocks, and the Ramones, the Adicts have remained one of the most critically underappreciated ...
