| | Cliff Richard 1980S CD Cliff Richard Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
UK collection for the British popstar features 16 tracks. EMI. 1998.
The fourth volume in Disky's ambitious five-CD Cliff Richard anthology, 1980s might well be the weakest of them all. It is certainly the most unmemorable, as Richard succumbed to the same musical curse that benighted almost every other veteran superstar of the day. He let the producers call the shots. In terms of both success and self-determination, Richard was now untouchable, a part of the rock & roll furniture, and absolutely independent from the hit singles and critical acclaim that once defined a viable artiste. So the decade saw him flit from seething rock & roll revivals to mawkish Christmas ballads, from inspired duets to ill-informed power ballads, and while this collection does trim away the more unbearable (or maybe just overplayed) excesses, it is still a reminder of just how unpleasant mainstream music in the 1980s sounded, and how anonymous even the most individual superstars became. Those drums.those keyboards.those hairstyles. The 1980s were a conveyor belt of sickly sound-alikes, and Cliff Richard rode it as willingly as every one of his peers. Thank goodness it only lasted ten years. ~ Dave Thompson
Personnel includes: Cliff Richard (vocals); Mike Batt, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, Calan Tarney, Alan Taney.

| | C Average CD (1998)
1980S
$13.49 C Average is made up of two heshers who seem capable of defending any hamlet or bog from the vilest evil, so swift are their punishing riffs spraying forth like a hail of poison-tipped arrows, so sharp are their hooks tearing at the flesh like the claws of falcons. The medieval-themed fantasy world of Dungeons and Dragons registered profoundly with these two chaps, causing them to invent a metal band that goes well beyond Iron Maiden in its obsession with all things chivalrous and regal. Sounding like a herd of galloping oxen with a dragon at their heels, C Average uses a simple guitar and drums assault to create a virtual battlefield of dueling knights, headless dwarves, and demented wizards. "American Jim" is a sludgy Sabbath-like beast which eventually launches into ...

| | Christian Antonius Mueller Man In Black CD (2006)
1980S
$16.45 Musical biography of Christian Antonius MuellerChristian Antonius Mueller started to play the piano at the age of four by listening to the kitchen radio and TV. Fascinated by the melodies that those devices played, he performed them on the piano and improvised the changes by himself. As a seven-years-old, he started to take piano lessons and two years later he wrote his first composition for piano. He kept busy from now on improvising and composing on the piano. Later, at high school, he was given the job as musical director for several plays of the school theater. He could now gain abilities in arranging and orchestrating. As well he was working as a live-improviser for theater and pantomime plays. In choirs at high – school and at the conservatory, he gained singing skills and for himself he wrote the first Pop Songs, including English lyrics.Besides of all of that, he learnt to play the trumpet and joined several brass bands from the area where he lived. The main impulses to develop musicality and technical skills, he got from Christian Zaugg with whom he studied professional classical piano performance and teaching at the conservatory in Bern and Zurich. Zaugg taught him the Feuchtwanger-Technique, which bases on a natural body posture (Alexander Technique) and needs only a minimum of muscle strength. To Mueller this technique was ground - breaking, because it allowed him to realize his musical ideas as far as he ever couldn't imagine. At his diploma concert he reached with this technique sovereignty and control of the keys and tones and every kind of nervousness was washed away before it even had started to grow. With the interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fugue and Prelude in F sharp (2nd Collection of the Well-Tempered Piano) he received the best mark.During his conservatory-time, he wrote several pieces of instrumental music for different instruments with piano and a piece for romantic orchestra. As well, he was composing songs and back - ground music and acting for the cabaret theater – trio “Tacheles”, that toured through Switzerland in 1994/95. Besides the classical piano studies he attended courses in Jazz-Improvisation at the Jazz-Academy in Basel. Most of all he was (and still is) fascinated b the phraseology of Keith Jarrett (especially in «The Köln-concert»). The lyrical play of Miles Davis impressed him as well. After his diploma - concert and several years of working as a piano teacher, Antonius traveled through Canada and lived in Toronto for a couple months. He started to write Pop songs, based on the instrumental music he has written and improvised on the piano solo concert he did April 24th 1998 in Zurich. He wouldn’t have guessed that he did once make himself a living by a bar piano player. However, after his traveling – time, he was looking for a “musical” - job and found response at the restaurant “Seerose” and “Blue Note” in Zurich. He built up a repertoire of approximately 500 Songs in a big variety of musical styles. Meanwhile - after he had attended an English school in Vancouver, Canada - he studied Alexander Technique for three years (2003-2006) and gained skills in sequencing and computer-based recording which brought him back to his strong passion: Composing and performing ...
