A good sounding, 22-song collection of tracks, most of them -- rather surprisingly -- from 1964, and weighted a little more toward folk than pop. "Georgy Girl" is here, along with "I'll Never Find Another You," but pieces like "Come the Day" aren't, so this is hardly a valid cross-section of the group's work or sound. It is a decent place for the novice or casual fan to start, assuming that any of the bigger domestic hits collections are beyond one's budget. ~ Bruce Eder
Digitally remastered anthology of the Australian folk-pop group. Back in the 1960's, The Seekers helped popularize a bright, cheery folk music sound that wasn't mired in the politics or their contemporaries. Their string of hit singles conquered the world and established a place in the hearts of millions who treasure their work. Here are all their essential recordings on a single CD that will more than satisfy the ardent fan as well as any pop aficionado.

Memories Brought back lots of good memories, especially the songs of Rick Springfield. Great music, great sound. Now if only they would issue "the Springfields Story" story with Dusty in CD format! Submitted by a reviewer (Calgary, AB, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Seekers music review I enjoyed the music of this album very much, and shared it with my girl friend who also enjoyed it very much. The music is from an era before when I started becoming interested in music, and is different than what is popular today. I became interested in this group when I heard one of their songs on a recent advertisement on TV. I found your web site through doing a search for music by The Seekers. Thanks again. Classic Seekers If you like classic folk music, you will like this CD. The Seekers are an amazing group, punctuated by individual achievements by each performer. Of this CD, my favorites are "I'll Never Find Another You, A World of Our Own, and Georgy Girl." Does it get any better than this? Submitted by a reviewer (Los Angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Very Best Of The Seekers
$17.45 British import reissue; includes the four tracks from their deleted 1990 EP, TODAY FOREVER.
One of the seminal records of the shoegazer movement, Ride's NOWHERE typifies all of the best qualities of the movement's sound. Shimmering, psychedelic atmospheres, squalling guitars shot through with distortion, and hypnotic drones balanced by genuine pop songcraft are all on ample display here, and are executed with a precision and mastery that represent the pinnacle of their technique.
"Seagull," the album's opener, pushed by the swirling twin guitar attack of Andy Bell and Mark Gardener, is simultaneously thunderous and radiant. Surging cuts like "Polar Bear" testify to Ride's skill at building dynamic tension and ringing sonic drama. But Ride were more than mere noise-merchants; their debt to psychedelic '60s pop also results in some fine songwriting, as the chiming, arepeggiated pop confection "Taste" reveals. NOWHERE is Ride's finest moment, and as a definitive document of shoegazer bliss, it ranks right alongside My Bloody Valentine's classic LOVELESS.
Nowhere seems to hold consensus as the second-best record of the shoegaze era, and with very good reason. All of the common words, phrases, and adjectives commonly used with the short-lived subgenre fit properly here, and they're all positive, every one of them. Whir, whoosh, haze, swirl, ad nauseum -- this record holds all of these elements at their most exciting and mastered. But in the end, great pop records necessitate quality songs, which Nowhere delivers throughout. Undeniably, it's Ride's zenith -- dense, tight, and hypnotic. "Seagull" serves as a dynamic opener; after a couple seconds of light feedback, bassist Steve Queralt kicks in with a rubbery, elliptical line (reminiscent of a certain Beatles song), which is soon followed ...
| | Storm Hymnal: Gems From The Vault Of Grant Lee Buffalo CDs (2001)
Very Best Of The Seekers
$12.25 A band that seemed to spend most of its existence on the verge of a major breakthrough that never happened, Grant Lee Buffalo had it all--high-profile supporters (R.E.M., Bob Mould), critical acclaim, a devoted fanbase, and a compelling frontman in singer/songwriter Grant Lee Phillips. However, none of these factors kept the inventive California-based group--which managed to combine a vintage, rustic sound with a modern-rock sensibility--from folding in the late '90s after four lauded albums. This two-disc set cherry-picks from each of those records, presenting wonderful tracks such as "The Shining Hour," a vibrant ...
| | Guess Who Wheatfield Soul/Artifical Paradise CD (1968)
Very Best Of The Seekers
$19.79 This 2-for-1 collection combines two records from Canadian rock group the Guess Who, WHEATFIELD SOUL from 1968 and ARTIFICIAL PARADISE from 1973; the former includes the top ten hit "These Eyes."
This two-fer from BMG Canada features a pair of out of print Guess Who LPs: Wheatfield Soul and Artificial Paradise, both originally issued on RCA Victor in 1968 and 1973 respectively. These albums highlight 20 songs, including "Pink Wine Sparkles in the Glass," "Follow Your Daughter Home," "A Wednesday in Your Garden," and the hit "These Eyes." While a greatest-hits package would satisfy most casual listeners' needs, these albums are worth acquiring for fanatics of the '70s Canadian rock group. ~ Al Campbell
Wheatfield Soul by the Guess Who has become a collectors item of sorts over the years, fetching various prices in fan circles, and it is an important "first" step for the reconstituted group which initially hit with "Shakin' All Over" when it was led by Chad Allan. The album is Jack Richardson's excellent production of Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings' music played by this particular four-piece unit, which Peter Clayton's liner notes claim were together "for three years when they cut this album in late 1968." The naïve sound of Cummings' voice on the album tracks is charming, but the hit "These Eyes" has that authority which the band would repeat on diverse ...
