Jimmy Somerville (Bronski Beat) and Richard Coles crafted some subtly political songs together after Sommerville left his original band.
This issue of the Communards self-titled debut album includes one bonus track.
Despite the inability of the music to live up to the high standards of Jimmy Somerville's ridiculously skilled falsetto voice, the Communards' first album achieved platinum status in several countries. Somerville's spirited duet with Sarah Jane Morris on a cover of Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way" helped push the record into the Top Ten on the U.K. charts, and a decent blend of other dancefloor fillers with Richard Coles-centric piano ballads lends variety for the ears that can't take a full album's worth of dance music. Both "Breadline Britain" and "Reprise" continue Somerville's activist ideals; the latter has to be one of the sharpest dissections of Margaret Thatcher. Compared to the following Red, much of the duo's self-titled debut sounds flat, lacking punch -- all the more surprising from a Mike Thorne (Wire, Marc Almond) production. [The remastered version adds a lengthy mix of "Don't Leave Me This Way."] ~ Andy Kellman
Remasterd reissue of classic New Wave/Dance record. Includes their chart-topping remake of Thelma Houston's 'Don't Leave Me this Way' and the '12' Mega Mix' as a bonus track. Warner. 1997.
This CD has 1 bonus track.

Communards album
$13.79 Looked at in the cold light of day and from some years' distance, Gene Loves Jezebel would seem like the last band whose work would stand the test of time. Weird thing, though -- in all their "everything goes" exuberance, from abstract goth wailing to balls-out Sunset Strip rock, the Aston brothers, much like their labelmates in the Cult, made everything work somehow. Not all the time, certainly, but Voodoo Dollies wisely draws on the best and biggest hits of the group, not to mention a couple of rarer items for the hardcore fanbase, to make an enjoyable career overview (certainly better than Some of the Best of Gene Loves Jezebel). Following a straight chronological order and enjoying the usual high quality of Beggars Banquet remastering, the 18-track collection is a fine treat. Besides the obvious numbers like "Desire (Come and Get It)," "The Motion of Love" (appearing here in a single mix), and "Jealous," the less well-known songs help to really flesh out the band's freaked-out, glammed-up appeal. ...

Communards music CDs
$16.99 Garage rock wasn't a concept that originated in the mid-'60s. In the aftermath of the initial rock & roll explosion, young rockabilly and R&B singers brought their unhoned talents into tiny studios throughout the country. This is a compilation of 26 of those efforts, mostly from the late '50s (mostly from 1958, in fact), and mostly for small independent labels, although some of these were leased to major labels, and a few were even recorded for major labels directly. Only one of these was a chart hit (Freddy Cannon's "Buzz Buzz A-Diddle-It"), and it's easy to see why, from two points of view. The approaches were too uncompromisingly raw, and the production too crude. On the other side of that coin, the songs themselves were rarely anything special, usually being standard three-chord knockoffs with little to make them stand out besides the ferocious energy of the performances. It's not great art, but it's certainly entertaining. That's especially true when the energy ...

Communards album
$7.59 These savvy young gents from Los Angeles have incorporated a variety of influences on CAMINO PALMERO for a hitbound sonic ride that will appeal to several camps of listeners. On the one hand, there's the voice of appropriately named Alex Band, which lands somewhere in between Creed-like declamation and Third Eye Blind modern pop. The rest of the band similarly pitches its approach in a free-trade zone where breakbeats, hard-edged guitars, sparkling ...

Communards music CDs
$11.39 Julie Tussey Christian BluesRecording Artist and Author, Julie Tussey, formerly Julie Jenkins, releases her 3rd CD, HillBilly Praise! Vol. 1 Julie began singing publicly at the tender age of 9 years old at the Coleman Elementary School. By the time she was 17 years old she had asked Jesus Christ into her life and began pursuing Christian music, feeling a strong call to minister. For many years Julie sang and traveled extensively in the great state of Michigan and across the US. After meeting and marrying her husband, Pastor Gary Tussey, this dynamic couple have ministrered together across the USA . Julie has enjoyed some wonderful opportunities, as she has followed the call of God, to share her dream to sing and speak. Opening for nationally known artists such as Phil Keaggy, The News Boys and touring with Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire were just a few of those opportunities. “I’ve enjoyed every minute of travel and living in the south and working with all these tremendously talented people”, says Julie, “ I believe Jesus is going to do some awesome things in our generation I want to not only be a part of that but also I want to be a catalyst for that! “Julie released her first CD, We Are A Remnant in 1989 and a follow-up CD which was produced by the popular Christian Band, David and the Giants, entitled An Awesome Hour, was released in 1991. Now Julie and her husband, Gary, have joined their musical talents to create HillBilly Praise! Vol. 1. A culmination of Rhythm & Blues meets Gospel, inspired by the roots of American Music; this CD is breaking new ground and contributing to a fresh, new sound in the Christian Music genre. Julie’s husband is a Blues piano and guitar player with a tremendous heart to reach others with the Gospel. Writing all the songs on the CD with the exception of re-writes on “Rock of Ages” and “Pass Me Not” this couple proves that ’Jesus is in the music’!The hit song “Resplendent” along with nine others create a tsunami of sound that is a “must hear“. Gary and Julie are preparing to record their fourth Music CD, are now writing a Christmas album and are currently releasing their newest series, Speak the Word Only, topical scripture reading with music. The Tussey’s also host their own television program, The Voice of the Redeemed. The program is a high-energy production of music and sharing the Gospel of Jesus. Julie currently has nine music videos and is preparing to shoot videos from the HillBilly Praise!
