| | Okeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 1 CD
A great R&B/Soul label, Okeh Records didn't get the recognition it deserved in the 60's. Under the guidance of production kings like Carl Davis, Okeh released some excellent records, many of which made the charts. This CD contains obscure Okeh tracks, featuring such artists as the Triumphs, the Seven Souls, Johnny Robinson, the Opals, the Carstairs, Jimmy Church, the Little Foxes, and the Autographs. The only real hits are The Artistics' "This Heart Of Mine," and Walter Jackson's "It's An Uphill Climb To The Bottom." Billy Butler & the Chanters does "My Heart Is Hurtin'," and the Vibrations' "Gonna Get Along Without You Now," both chart strangers. The Carstairs "He Who Picks A Rose," previously done by both the Temptations and Edwin Starr, is as scorching as the Motown originals. In addition, there's two pre "Love Won't Let Me Wait" sides from Major Harris, as well as, tracks by Little Richard, and Tommy Tate. Twenty-three interesting tracks, with strong liner notes enhancing the unfamiliar music. ~ Andrew Hamilton Okeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 1 Music Okeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 1 Review

Okeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 1 CD music
$8.49 Whitney Houston's soulful, elastic voice was practically made to wrap around Christmas standards, but despite the naturalness of the match, ONE WISH, out for Christmas 2003, as the singer neared her third decade of performing, marks her first holiday album. What lies within shouldn't disappoint as she covers many familiar tunes ...

That renaissance gal is at it again. As in THE BODYGUARD, Whitney Houston does double duty as star and soundtrack provider for THE PREACHER'S WIFE. Don't look for her to be sticking to the commercial pop-R&B sound that served her so well on her last soundtrack album, though. THE PREACHER'S WIFE finds Houston reaching back to her roots in gospel, and collaborating with some stellar gospel artists, including her mother, Cissy.
Several cuts here, including "Hold On, Help Is On The Way" and "I Go To The Rock," find the soulful Georgia Mass Choir supporting Houston ...
| | Barry White Unlimited CDs (2009) With Book; With DVD; Box Set; Special Edition
Okeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 1 CD music
$65.35 UNLIMITED is more substantial than it appears. Looking like a five-dollar box of chocolates, with its contents printed on a large black sticker slapped onto the back, it improves upon 1992's JUST FOR YOU box in breadth and (once you open the thing) presentation. The only potential problem for some listeners is that 20 of the songs appear in "alternate versions" -- a gentle way of saying "2009 remixes." The mixes were done by Jack Perry, Barry White's musical director and engineer, and they do retain ...

Okeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 1 songs
$13.99 The Geto Boys returned from a three-year hiatus (in which its three members released solo material) with 1996's THE RESURRECTION. Though the rap game had changed since they last had a collective stake in it, it quickly becomes evident that the Texas Boys remain as gangsta strong as ever. Scarface, Bushwick Bill, and Willie D continue to do what they've always done well--spit tales of crime, sex, and the dark side of the street over hardcore beats. Adept at evoking a gritty world of mayhem ...
| | Styles P Time Is Money CD (2006) Edited
Okeh: A Northern Soul Obsession, Vol. 1 album
$12.65 Styles P had been through his share of trials and tribulations, between the success of his certified gold debut, A GANGSTER AND A GENTLEMEN, and the release of its much-delayed follow-up, TIME IS MONEY. After a brief prison term for assault, Styles's label drama began, and he chose to go the mixtape route, recording three while Interscope put TIME IS MONEY on the back burner. Nearly two years after its first single came out, the Lox's most laidback crew member's sophomore album finally arrived to smash the world. With his measured cadences, sly one-liners, and understated intensity, Styles P once again proves he can display all the lyrical power of the most amped-up rhyme spitter without losing his cool. Tight production comes courtesy of Havoc, Lil Jon, Rashad, Hi-Tek, and the Alchemist, while the guest list features Talib Kweli, Jae Hood, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, Akon, and Marsha of Floetry.
While the title became more and more ironic with every pushed-back release date, Styles P's long-delayed Time Is Money feels immediate, like an excellent mixtape with extremely high production values, and certainly not what you'd expect from a "four years in the making" album. This vital slab of street music pops from the get-go with "G-Joint," a vicious stab at rival gangs -- G-Unit included -- with producer Huu Banga crunching ...
