Purchase I Got Rhythm CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Diana Krall Quiet Nights CD (2009)
I Got Rhythm album
$13.69 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, however, as Krall also spends plenty of time in the comfortable realm of the Great American Songbook, offering up elegant orchestral renditions of "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face" and the Bacharach/David gem "Walk On By" that benefit from her supremely smoky vocals and graceful delivery.

| | Aventura Last CD (2009) Digipak
I Got Rhythm CD music
$11.89 Latin pop boy band Aventura has achieved no small amount of success with their unique blend of traditional Dominican bachata and sleek, Top 40-oriented R&B. THE LAST, Aventura's fifth studio release, further explores the band's swoon-worthy style, and is one of their most accomplished and impressive efforts.
As usual, the quartet plays to their strengths, which include lilting tropical ballads, with the occasional foray into hip-hop-flavored slow jams, such as "Spanish Fly," featuring cameos from Ludacris and Wyclef Jean. Additional cameos from Akon, Wisin y Yandel, and jazz legend Arturo Sandoval heighten the star appeal of THE LAST, but it's Aventura's smooth, sultry bachata-pop that steals the show.

| | Something's Gotta Give CD (2003) Original Soundtrack
I Got Rhythm songs
$6.09 The 2003 film SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE stars Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson and chronicles the humorous romantic travails of the past-50 pair (past 60 in the latter's case). Just as the film was praised for its disregard of the youth-culture imperative, so the soundtrack offers a remarkably sophisticated selection of songs. Sporting a mix of jazz vocals, doo-wop, Brazilian, and French music, the disc is unremittingly romantic.
Things kick off with the inimitable trumpet and voice of Louis Armstrong on "La Vie En Rose." Eventually, the listener moves through everything from the Flamingos' moody 1950s classic "I Only Have Eyes For You" to bossa nova queen Astrud Gilberto shifting into samba mode for "So Nice (Summer Samba)," and French crooner Charles Trenet cooing sensually ...

| | Enya Day Without Rain CD (2000)
I Got Rhythm CD music
$10.65 A DAY WITHOUT RAIN won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album.
Celtic songbird Enya is nothing if not consistent--A DAY WITHOUT RAIN won't disappoint anyone who was entranced by her first major hit "Orinoco Flow." The same blend of adult-contemporary pop, Celtic overtones, and peaceful, new age-derived ambience fills these songs. Enya knows how to set a mood, and she takes her time establishing the themes here; the title cut that opens the album doesn't even have any words, just Enya's harmoniously overdubbed humming.
Speaking of overdubs, Enya sang and played every single thing on A DAY WITHOUT RAIN herself, demonstrating both an impressive versatility and a remarkable steadiness of vision. With the (seemingly) sampled timpani and strings that adorn much of the album, some of ...

| | Al DiMeola Di Meola Plays Piazzolla CD (1990)
I Got Rhythm songs
$9.59 PLAYS PIAZZOLLA, a tribute to Astor Piazzolla, combines previously-released tracks with new material.
Latin music has been a strong influence on Al Di Meola since his early years, and in the '90s, he paid especially close attention to the music of Argentina. A welcome addition to his already impressive catalog, Di Meola Plays Piazzolla pays homage to the late Argentine tango master Astor Piazzolla (whose distinctive and very poetic brand of romanticism was considered quite daring and radical in Argentina). It would have been easy for an artist to allow his own personality to become obscured when saluting Piazzolla's legacy, but the charismatic Di Meola is too great an improviser to let that happen. Though his reverence for Piazzolla comes through loud and clear on these haunting classics, there's no mistaking the fact that this is very much an Al Di Meola project. ~ Alex Henderson

| | Jon McLaughlin Indiana CD (2007)
I Got Rhythm songs
$9.99 Opener "Industry," for example, details the artist's perseverance in the face of adversity, and wraps it all in a sunny, McCartneyesque melody. The soaring chorus of "Beautiful Disaster" almost belies the difficulty of the song's subject matter, but McLaughlin never compromises one for the other--this is accessible pop with lyrics from the heart about the heartland. INDIANA is a promising first effort from an artist who should appeal to both pop aficionados and singer-songwriter fans.
Not to be confused with the innovative jazz guitarist of the same (differently spelled) name, Jon McLaughlin is a young ...
