| | Oscar Peterson Solo/Live CD (2002)
Robocop Soundtrack CD music
$8.35 Recorded live in Baalbek, Lebanon and Amsterdam, The Netherlands between August & November 1972. Includes liner notes by Ernie Rideout.
Two previously unreleased 1972 solo concerts are compiled on this Oscar Peterson CD. The first, recorded in Lebanon, sounds as if it may have been recorded for broadcast. While the condition of the instrument provided for him is not quite up to par, Peterson, like his mentor Art Tatum, quickly sizes up the capabilities and limitations of this piano and makes the most of it with a stunning interpretation of "Yesterdays," followed by a romping stride through "Makin' Whoopee." ...

Robocop Soundtrack songs
$11.25 Broadway musical JERSEY BOYS brings to the stage the story of 1960s singing sensations Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, recounting their rise from working-class kids to pop-music superstars. The soundtrack, naturally, is filled with Four Seasons hits, including timeless classics like "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," and "December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)." Interspersed between the songs are snippets of dialogue from the play, and the actors playing the Four Seasons nail the group's famous vocal harmonies impressively. JERSEY BOYS is a fun listen for those looking to take a walk down memory lane for historical curiosity or even just nostalgia's sake.

| | Neil Diamond Jazz Singer CD (1980)
Robocop Soundtrack album
$6.75 Neil Diamond's revisiting of the 1927 Al Jolson classic THE JAZZ SINGER (the first film to feature synchronized sound) keeps to the story of the original film; a young Jewish man turns his back on his heritage in an attempt to make it big in show business. Naturally, Diamond penned the music for his version of THE JAZZ SINGER himself, and the soundtrack was a phenomenal commercial success. Three of the songs here should be instantly familiar to anyone who drew a breath in the early '80s: the tender ballad "Hello Again," the haunting, swirling "Love On the Rocks," and the swelling patriotism of "America."
In between are the hand-clapping groovers "You Baby" and "Amazed and Confused," the melancholic waltz of "Summerlove," and traditional Jewish songs like "Kol Nidre." Elaborate instrumentation and arrangements (the songs are richly outfitted with strings) add to the surge and power of Diamond's performances, and while the ...
| | Gerald Wilson State Street Sweet CD (1994)
Robocop Soundtrack CD music
$13.35 Bandleader/arranger Gerald Wilson's first recording in several years is a success. He revisits "Carlos" (featuring trumpeter Ron Barrows) and "Lighthouse Blues" and performs some newer originals including "State Street Sweet," "Lakeshore Drive" and "Jammin' in C." With such soloists as trumpeters Barrows, Bobby Shew, Tony Lujan and Snooky Young, altoist Randall Willis, tenors Louis Taylor, Plas Johnson (showcased on "Come Back to Sorrento") and Carl Randall, pianist Brian O'Rourke and guitarists Anthony Wilson and Eric Otis, this edition of the Gerald Wilson Orchestra is quite strong but it is the leader's colorful and distinctive arrangements that give the band its personality. Recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
