| | Dave Meniketti On The Blue Side CD Dave Meniketti Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Released in 1999, ON THE BLUE SIDE is the 12 track release from guitar virtuoso Dave Meniketti
Despite being best known as the guitar slinger for Bay Area pop metallists Y&T, Dave Meniketti has always had a fondness for the blues, as heard throughout his first-ever solo album, 2000s On the Blue Side. Although it's not new for a metal guitarist to rediscover their blues roots (Gary Moore successfully reinvented himself as a bluesmen in the early '90s), Meniketti gets to show off his blues chops throughout. Included is an album-opening cover of James Brown's "Man's World," while Meniketti does a pretty darn impressive Billy Gibbons impersonation on "Angel on my Shoulder." He pays tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan on "Just Coastin'," and pours out his heart and soul on "Until Next Time." Those who have Meniketti pegged as merely a heavy metal guitarist will certainly change their tune after hearing On the Blue Side. ~ Greg Prato

On The Blue Side music CDs
$15.09 Recorded live at the Woodstock Festival, Bethel, New York on August 18, 1969. Includes liner notes by David Fricke.
Jimi Hendrix was the headliner at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Ironically, he got to go on around dawn on Monday morning, by which time there were only (...only) 60,000 remaining parishoners--the last act. Hendrix's Gypsy Sun & Rainbows emerged from a communal summer of jamming in the upstate arts community, but these other musicians are largely inauidble. So what we have in WOODSTOCK is a high energy test flight of Hendrix's last two touring trios, featuring Experience-drummer Mitch Mitchell and Jimi's old Army buddy, the groove oriented Fender bassist, Billy Cox.
Following hot on the heels of the acclaimed BLUES, this second gem from the Hendrix archives finds Hendrix in transition: from a rock and pop approach, to Sky Church music--Jimi's free form synthesis of blues, modal jazz, funk and ethnic sources. An early arrangement ...
| | Robben Ford Supernatural CD (1999)
On The Blue Side songs
$12.29 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
While his refined talent remains consistent, each of Robben Ford's albums are separate entities all their own. SUPERNATURAL is the guitarist's boldest venture into what can only be described as blue-eyed soul--craftily written songs that reflect Ford's blues roots, but with a sleek R&B sheen that comes across like fine satin. His guitar playing is superb, as usual; wailing, passionate solos are a result of Ford's extensive apprenticeship with many blues masters while in his teens. It is Ford's light, clear vocal style that gets the most attention, as he assumes the role of a pop songster with a soulful bent. With the help of top-flight studio players like Vinnie Colaiuta, Jimmy Earl, Russell Ferrante and Luis Conte, Ford's efforts reveal him to be an honest spokesman for quality adult-contemporary songs that aren't afraid to push the artistic envelope just a wee bit. Highlights ...
| | Rory Gallagher Photo Finish CD (1978) (Import) Germany
On The Blue Side album
$9.89 Remixed and expanded (with two additional tracks recorded but chopped off the vinyl version) for its debut on CD in 1999, this is a sturdy, workmanlike Rory Gallagher release. Reverting back to a trio, Gallagher toughens up his sound and blazes through some robust blues rockers like "Last of the Independents," "Shadow Play," and "Brute Force & Ignorance" (one of his best hard rock riffs) with nervy energy. Gallagher's swampy side emerges on "Cloak & Dagger," another song that explores his fascination with B-movie gumshoes, a common theme for the Irish blues-rocker. His guitar work is typically excellent throughout, especially on "Overnight Bag," as he overdubs himself on acoustic. Still, the album has a samey feel due to some of the songwriting not being quite up to snuff, and a few tracks, like the moody, slow-burning "Feel to the Fire," stretched well past its breaking point to over six minutes. Of the two additional tunes, "Early Warning" is a typically rugged chunky rocker, and "Juke Box Annie" explores the guitarist's ...
| | Joe Satriani Super Colossal CD (2006)
On The Blue Side CD music
$9.59 2006's SUPER COLOSSAL is the 12th studio album from guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani. The master shredder still traffics in arena-sized hard rock instrumentals that provide plenty of room for his melodic, technically dazzling solos. But Satch mixes things up, too, with sunny, country-tinged riffs ("It's So Good"), atmospheric jams ("Ten Words"), ...
