| Electrical Storm Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) 1st solo album & best solo album At the time of releasing this LP, Ed Kuepper had just broke up his pervious band, The Laughing Clowns, they had run their course (a brilliant one at that). Ed Kuepper, a prodigous writer, had collected songs over several years that did not suit the Clowns avant-garde style. The best of those songs are on this LP. The title track, Electrical Storm, is laced with the intensity that we expect from Ed Kuepper. The album has some of the power of The Saints (his first band), and hints of what his later work would be like. If you want help in choosing your first Ed Kuepper album, I recommend this one. | | Oxbow An Evil Heat CD (2002)
Electrical Storm
$14.75 An Evil Heat is Oxbow's fifth album and their first in five years, and for a band who on paper might appear past their prime, it's a surprisingly good album. Actually, it's just really good, period. Compared to earlier albums like Fuckfest or King of the Jews, this album ...
| | Kekele Kinavana CD (2006)
Electrical Storm
$15.89 Always one of the best Congolese musical outfits, Kekele have made a career connecting the dots between rumba and rhumba -- Cuba and West Africa -- it's even in the title of this disc, Kinavana, from Kinshasa and Havana. But whereas they've taken a generalist approach to the musical melding before, this time they're far more specific, with an album of music written or recorded by Guillermo Portables, who was hardly a household name in his lifetime. But in the hands of Kekele you'd certainly imagine him to be a master. The arrangements sparkle and the guests, including Manu Dibango and M'Bilia Bel as well as others, offer incisive contributions. Guitarists Papa Noel and Syran Mbenza are the standouts in the band, but there are absolutely no passengers in this outfit. It's class all the way, taking the music ...
| | Pilot Ships There Should Be An Entry Here CD (1997)
Electrical Storm
$11.99 It was to be figured that any album involving a Stars of the Lid member would be moody, meditative, and, generally speaking, pretty darn good. And so it proved true -- the Pilot Ships' first release is an hour-long beauty of a record, one that wisely doesn't try to exactly replicate Stars of the Lid or any of the other parent bands who spawned it. Instead there's a feeling of low-key strumming, a ...

And you will be joining the many rabbis, cantors, early childhood educators, religious school music teachers, song leaders and families who are singing this song and the 15 other original hits on this recording. Who are Peter & Ellen Allard? They are two of the most influential Jewish songwriters of the last 20 years, writing songs for young children and families - songs that have already become standards in the repertoire of anyone who sings Jewish songs with kids. | | Bynum Double Trio CD (2008)
Electrical Storm
$11.39 The Double Trio by Stephen Haynes and Taylor Ho Bynum is a live recording at the Jazz Standard from the Festival of New Trumpet Music in September 2006. Dave Douglas, founder of the Festival for New Trumpet Music said on his blog:Taylor Ho Bynum and Stephen Haynes gave us a unique take on the double trio format at the Standard last night. On one side Taylor with Mary Halvorson on guitar and Tomas Fujiwara on drums. Stephen on the other with Allan Jaffe on guitar and Warren Smith on drums. The sound and compositions were rich and filled the space. It was refreshing to see something so different at a club in New York, and during the particularly abstract moments I found myself beaming at the big sign over the bandstand that says JAZZ STANDARD. Yes, finally! Both brass players have full sounds, Stephen ranging from airy and transparent to cutting and brassy, Taylor delving often into half-valved burry tones and squiggly lines. The construction of the pieces was ingenious, constantly shifting the relationship of trio to trio, instrument to instrument, melody to melody. Lots of memorable exchanges between Mary and Allan, Tomas and Warren. When I walked in and saw the stage it seemed there was something wrong with the set-up: Warren Smith had a large kit with a wall of gongs and an orchestral bass drum behind it. Tomas played a small kit arrayed on the opposite side of the stage, almost hiding behind the piano. Once the music started it was clear there was no disparity at all, just two very creative percussionists with two very different sets of instruments. It made for a great evening with a wide variety of sound. Stephen Haynes is an improvising composer, arts advocate and educator; a product of the historic and fertile Black Music Division at Bennington College, directed by Bill Dixon. Mr. Haynes’ early foundational studies were with Frank Baird, who chaired the brass department at the University of Colorado's Boulder campus during the ‘60s and ‘70s. He is a charter member of Cecil Taylor's AHA! Orchestra and serves on the boards of directors for Y'All of New York and Spectrum in Motion Dance Theater Ensemble. Over the years he has worked with a range of musicians, with a primary interest in large ensembles and composition: George Russell, LaMonte Young, Butch Morris, Rhys Chatham, Bill Dixon, Leroy Jenkins, JD Parran, Adam Rudolph, Gunter Hampel and the Dells.Taylor Ho Bynum is a performer on cornet and various brass instruments, ...
