With AN DIOLAM, John Crosby of Folk Roots Magazine compiles music from one of Ireland's most popular groups to show the band's traditional folk roots. Together with the Chieftains, Clannad defined the international and commercial possibilities of traditional Irish music for the last quarter of the 20th century, in the 1980s contributing to the development of Irish folk rock, new age, and ambient music (and spawning the solo career of one of their singers, Enya).
On AN DIOLAIM we hear the depth and breadth of Clannad's roots. Assembled from the very best of the band's groundbreaking recordings for the Gael-Linn record label, it includes a variety of folk based tunes with lyrics in Irish Gaelic. Perhaps the most beautiful song on AN DIOLAIM is the love ballad, "Siuil A Run." There's a heartwarming, bouncy jig, "The Gaitee Hunt," and finally, the exquisite "Oulaman" is sung in a rich and expansive canonistic style.
14 vintage tracks by the beloved Irish act delving intotheir folk roots. Nearly an hour long, it includes 'TwoSisters', 'Dulaman (Seaweed)', 'An Gabhar Ban', 'RincePhilib A'cheoil', 'Siuil A Run (Irish Love Song)' and'Eleanor Plunkett'. 1998 Music Club release.
Includes liner notes by John Crosby.

$9.85 One of singer Sandy Denny's finest post-Fairport Convention outings, 1972's SANDY finds the beloved U.K. folk singer backed by top-tier musicians, including Fairport peers Richard Thompson and Dave Swarbrick, as well as renowned pedal-steel guitarist "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow. "It'll Take a Long Time" opens the album in a beautifully sleepy manner, allowing Denny's emotive voice to shine, while her cover of Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow Is a Long Time" veers down a country road, with Kleinow's plaintive guitar lines setting ...

His long standing interest in ceremonial Bata drumming as it is performed in Cuba, the Caribbean and America, coupled with a deep love for flamenco music gave birth to Lost World. Begun in collaboration with Puerto Rican percussionist Ricardo Isaac, the project is an exploration of world rhythms, from the intricate percussion traditions that started in Africa and have made their way to the Caribbean and South America, to the Indo/European streams that have fertilized the gypsy and flamenco traditions and on to Indian, Celtic and Aboriginal groove elements. Added to this is a mix of contemporary jazz, classical, rock and folkloric influences. Joining him as the core of this joyous effort is Venezuelan drummer Aaron Serfaty, Mexican-American bassist Rene Camacho and guest artists Gonzalo Rubalcaba, the Cuban jazz pianist, jazz trumpeter Wallace Roney and Alex Acuña, Peruvian drummer/percussionist. ...
