An interesting set of music originally recorded as the soundtrack for the French film Les Liaisons Dangereuses, the majority of these tracks feature Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers of mid-1959 with trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenorman Barney Wilen, pianist Boby Timmons and bassist Jymie Merritt joining the explosive drummer/leader. In general, the music manages to stand on its own with the ensemble getting to stretch out a bit on the rare material. ~ Scott Yanow

Originally I wanted to keep things real simple – a straight acoustic recording. After leaving a previous band situation I thought it would be refreshing to depart from the intricacies of working in a group and just get on with the simple enjoyment of sitting down with an acoustic guitar and writing. I did this and recorded a number of tracks. But as I listened back to each song, I realized I needed to handle the project on a song-to-song basis and not confine myself to a strict acoustic format. I wanted the recording to have peaks and valleys musically as well as lyrically. I tried to obtain what I would look for in a CD – songs that move through different moods, capturing the diversity of the day-to-day. Fortunately, I was able to induct the assistance of veteran producer/musician, TJ Swan. Working out of his Manhattan based TJ Swan Recording (www.tjswan.com), we moved forward producing a CD, that would encompass a broad range of musical styles.
