Purchase At The Movies CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Melanie Fiona Bridge CD (2009)
At The Movies
$8.79 Melanie Fiona's debut single, "Give It to Me Right," was a perfect 2009 pop-R&B recording. The single coupled a timeless classic (the Zombies' "Time of the Season") with roof-raising vocals and infectious pop hooks that stuck like peanut butter. Fiona's single was perfect, albeit a touch formulaic. Because of this, it's no surprise that a large chunk of her debut album, THE BRIDGE, is much of the same. Like any good 2009 pop-soul recording, the album offers influences from decades of soul music. Fiona, a Kanye West protégé, collaborates with about as many styles of music as she has ...

| | Best Of Teddy Pendergrass CD (2003)
At The Movies
$7.49 This budget compilation is somewhat skimpy at 12 tracks, but those twelve tracks are killers. Teddy Pendergrass's biggest charting hits--"Close the Door" and "Turn Off the Lights," among them--are included, and the whole plays not only like a sampler of Pendergrass's brightest moments, but like a primer on late-1970s/early-'80s "quiet storm" soul. As evidenced by how these singles burned up the charts, and the subsequent high sales of Pendergrass's albums, it was clear that Philadelphia International and Pendergrass had a winning combination on their hands. P.I. masterminds Gamble and Huff's sweet, string-heavy arrangements were the perfect match for Pendergrass's rich, bedroom croon, and the well-written tunes, seemingly tailor-made for candlelit dinners and boudoir activities, don't hurt either. The enduring appeal of those songs is all the more apparent hearing them back-to-back on THE BEST. You know you're looking at a poor compilation when an instant, extensive list of missing tracks runs through your head after glancing at the track listing. Such is the case with this particular Best of Teddy Pendergrass, released by Platinum. "Turn off the Lights," "Can't We Try," "Close the Door," "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration," "Love T.K.O.," and "I Can't Live Without Your Love" are here, but at least 20 other significant songs are not. Plus, you can tell instantly that little care was put into this package. You'd be much better served by any of the compilations released by The Right Stuff. ~ Andy Kellman Forever Gold: Teddy Pendergrass collects some of the soul singer's treasured songs and St. Clair's effort in doing so is right on. This dozen-track list highlights some of Pendergrass' more sultry moods with cuts like "Love T.K.O." and "Turn Off the Lights," while "The Whole Town's Laughing at Me" and "I Can't Live Without Your Love" showcase his sentimental side. Fans of this smoky, smooth vocalist will enjoy Forever Gold: Teddy Pendergrass, for his talent of capturing a calm aura is what made him a star among the contemporary pop circle. It's not as thorough as his greatest-hits album from Right Stuff, but it's a decent look at some of his best. ~ MacKenzie Wilson Contains all the sensuous, red-light specials that established Teddy Pendergrass as an R&B sex symbol. Delivered in his rough baritone, throbbers "Come Go With Me," "Close the Door," "Turn Off the Lights," "Is It Still Good To Ya," and his theatrical duet with Stephanie Mills' "Feel the Fire," work like aphrodisiacs. Who can't identify with the aching "The Whole's Town Laughing ...
