| | Best Of Bossa Nova: The Girls From Ipanema CD
The Best of Bossa Nova: The Girls from Ipanema culls work from both Brazilian artists and (mostly American) artists who dabbled in cool jazz and bossa nova. Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto are those most frequently found on the album, including in their famous collaboration of "The Girl from Ipanema," the song that brought Gilberto to fame, but their other contributions capture the smooth loungey feel that bossa means to convey. Other tracks on the two-disc, 15-song compilation include Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Favela," Luiz Bonfá's "Domingo a Noite," Baden Powell's "Canto de Ossanha" and Joao Gilberto's "Samba da Minha Terra," which makes it, although not complete, a pretty good sampling of what the genre has to offer. ~ Marisa Brown Best Of Bossa Nova: The Girls From Ipanema Music Best Of Bossa Nova: The Girls From Ipanema Songs | 1. | Girl From Ipanema |

Best Of Bossa Nova: The Girls From Ipanema album
$13.69 Diana Krall's first studio outing since she and husband Elvis Costello became the proud parents of twin boys, 2009's QUIET NIGHTS finds the jazz singer/pianist turning in a serene and pleasantly subdued set. Krall breezes through a few bossa nova standards, most notably "The Girl from Ipanema" (here gender-reversed to "The Boy...") and the title track (originally "Corcovado"), both penned by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim. QUIET NIGHTS isn't solely a Brazilian-themed outing, however, as Krall also spends plenty of time in the comfortable realm of the Great American Songbook, offering up elegant orchestral renditions of "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face" and the Bacharach/David ...

Best Of Bossa Nova: The Girls From Ipanema CD music
$12.59 Jeff Hamilton's recordings have always been focused as straight-ahead and mainstream as your typical superhighway, with occasional time for rest stops, gassing up, and sleepovers. While always a good listen, Hamilton and his non-stop rotation of up-and-coming pianists and bassists never really pushed the envelope, staying the course set by his mentor, the late, great bassist Ray Brown, and other California-based coolsters. With Symbiosis, though, there's a change in the weather with the addition of extraordinary young talent in pianist Tamir Hendelman and bassist Christoph ...

$7.59 A TRIBUTE TO JACK JOHNSON was originally conceived as the soundtrack for a documentary on the life of the first African American heavyweight boxing champion, but the album stands on its own as one of the most brilliant, compelling fusion recordings ever made. This is due in large part to the increasing influence of rock and funk on Miles's aesthetic, to the superb musicians (including Davis himself-- ...
