Call of the Mystic CD (2004)
There are New Age artists who convey spiritual passion, and there are those who convey spiritual calm. What's exciting about Karunesh's albums is his seemingly effortless mastery of both. The composer and producer offers another collection of melodic instrumentals that reflect the colorful pageantry of India. Collaborating with Indian classical musicians on traditional instruments (sarod, Carnatic violin, sitar), the songs here are a travelogue of humid green fields, temples, the rushing Ganges River, and the ancient mysteries infused in the water and land.
Karunesh's compositions unfold slowly but, like the South Indian classical songs they emulate, build up quiet steam. On "Mount Kailash," guest artist Bikram's bansuri flute beckons like a snake charmer's, giving way to a potent and sensuous ambient number. The mind-bending "And the Grass Grows By Itself" hovers around the Western pop musical scale but radiates a powerful yogic energy. Like all of Karunesh's albums, CALL OF THE MYSTIC makes for rapt listening but can also be a soothing backdrop for meditation, yoga, or ...

Nirvana Cafe CD (2002)
Karunesh's second album is a pleasant mix of easy-listening pop and smooth jazz. If from that description you suspect this album of synthesizer ballads is laid-back, you'd be right, but there is enough melodic intrigue to keep things interesting. "Dazzled by the Light" is a smooth cha-cha featuring Real Music label-mate ...

Zen Breakfast CD (2001)
Karunesh's debut album is an atmospheric meditation for piano and synthesizer. The synthesizer often sings like a bamboo flute, evoking the Zen practice of shakuhachi flute-meditation. The songs unwind slowly and gracefully, summoning a sense of peace in the listener. Subtle vocal samples and limpid guitar float through the mix, but ...

R. Carlos Nakai Winter Dreams for Christmas CD (1990)
Chakra Sounds music CDs Navajo flautist Carlos Nakai first collaborated with guitarist William Eaton on the haunting and panoramic album Carry the Gift. Here they turn their talents to reflective interpretations of traditional Christmas carols, with the self-penned "The First Snowfall" thrown in for good measure. In addition to guitar, William Eaton also plays lyre ...

Davide Ravasio Desert Shaman CD (2000)
Chakra Sounds CD music There's a remarkable sense of movement about the music in Desert Shaman. "Muezzin" might not actually evoke the callers at the mosque, but it still seems like a journey -- although not as much as "Dunes," which manages to travel from North to South Africa -- via a Celtic whistle detour ...
