| | Monster Magnet God Says No CD (2001) Import
Dark Sides music CDs
$13.09 U.K. version features two bonus tracks, "Silver Future" and "I Want More."
Fellow stoner rock gods Queens Of The Stone Age may have disavowed the aforementioned tag, but Monster Magnet continued eagerly embracing this tag right up through 2001's GOD SAYS NO. The band's sixth album was originally conceived by singer-songwriter Dave Wyndorf to be a conceptual, Hawkwind-like space-rock concept album, but the demos and lyrics were swiped during the frontman's cross-country trip to the studio. Forced to change gears mid-stream, Wyndorf whipped up 13 songs that impressively expanded on these long-haired Jersey natives' trademark sludge-rock sound.
Among the more adventurous trips these Red Bank rockers take are "Queen Of You" (with its electronica-driven beats and Middle Eastern chords) and "Kiss Of The Scorpion," a Farfisa organ-filled slice of psychedelic garage rock revolving around the ravings of a sexually ravenous incubus. Sex proves to be a popular ...
| | Tears Of Anger Still Alive CD (2004) (Import) Finland
Dark Sides songs
$18.55 The band started out as a duo in the early 90's. Consisting Benny Jansson and singer brother Björn Jansson, one of Sweden's best kept secrets.Back then calling themselves Mindcrime, both well hired studio musicians in Sweden at that time. They did producing, engineering and playing for many artists through the 80's until the mid 90's, working for one of Sweden's best selling labels LIONHEART records. The idea of Tears of anger began when the brothers wanted to mix AoR and Metal together, to create something dark yet so melodic no one could resist their music. During the 90's they signed a deal with Montezuma records licensed by Black Mark, but for some reasons yet unknown the album which had Anders Johansson (Ynwie Malmsteen, Hammerfall) handling the drums, never saw the light of the day. Affected by this, the brothers stopped working together in the late 90's realizing a Tears of anger album was too much hard work to realize at that time. Björn worked with some bands around Europe, finally deciding after working as a session singer around Stockholm doing vocals for Erika, Two Rocks and as lead singer for band Snake's in Paradise, he wanted to do a solo album, again this time writing songs with he's left wing commander Benny.Björn searched for musicians all over Sweden but without much luck, he worked with names such as Jan Granwick (Glory) and so on. The album was never really recorded so Benny used the songs for he's next project Two Rocks, an album released by LIONHEART records. The album was well received in the Swedish press. The guys had now much success and was invited by suggestion from LIONHEART to make two songs for the big budget film called "Sökarna". The film was a big box office success by Swedish standards and both Benny and Björn received allot of credit for their work.Time passed by and now Benny who had been working parallel with The Johansson brothers, Talisman and Svullo, just to name a few, now wanted to go solo. He recorded two solo albums for Heptagon Records "Virtual Humanity", "Flumride" ...

| | Suzy Bogguss Sweet Danger CD (2007) Digipak
Dark Sides songs
$12.29 Suzy Bogguss issued her fine Swing album in 2003. Other than a Christmas recording -- why does every artist feel the need to issue one of those? -- she hasn't released anything in four years. She's toured hard, written songs, and spent her time and energy conceiving the provocative Sweet Danger. Bogguss may no longer be on the country charts, but perhaps with contemporary country's willingness to embrace other American popular song forms she may end up there yet again. For the listener, it doesn't matter. The reason is simply that Sweet Danger is the finest moment in a long career. Bogguss has undergone a metamorphosis as a musician. It's plainly obvious from the opening moments of the album's opening cut, "The Bus Ride." The big minor-key piano chords, hand percussion, and muted drum kit give way to a tasty acoustic guitar lead and it's all reminiscent of Steely Dan's "Do It Again." The similarity ends there in a sense, because when Bogguss opens her mouth and lets the story begin to fall from her, it's all her. But the music here owes more to jazz and samba than country -- no matter how hip and inclusive ...
