Counterfall band really began when experienced guitar instructor Matthew Hoover recognized profound songwriting ability in a 14 year old student Jamey Williams. The two began to work out arrangements to Jamey’s songs and soon added brothers Nick and Stephen Wiley to form an official band. The quartet began to perform locally and worked tirelessly towards a debut CD built upon Jamey’s earliest songs. The Wiley brothers stayed with the band long enough to complete the CD but had to ultimately step away due to numerous other responsibilities. The band was then expanded to include brothers Chris and Matthew Williams and bassist Arthur Summerlin. After grooming Matthew Williams to take on the duties of Lead Guitar, Matthew Hoover stepped out of the performing band but remains the musical director and coach.The music is built around an amazing diversity of writing that Jamey continues to bring to the table. The style ranges from true rock to acoustic and piano ballads, and the lyrical content belies Jamey’s youth in that it is significantly deeper than one would expect from the mind and heart of a teenager. For that matter, every member of Counterfall is a teenager, but the music still speaks of maturity and experience. This probably is the result of both Jamey’s songwriting and the influence of classically and rock trained guitarist Matthew Hoover.The band members are all Christians, and their spiritual positions are reflected in the music and in the writing. That being said, the music and lyrical quality speaks to both beautiful and challenging elements of faith and would never be described as “simple”. Experience the music of Counterfall, and you will not be disappointed. This is only the beginning.
