| | Madball Droppin' Many Suckers CD Madball Discography of CDs
New York hardcore project Madball was first put together years before this debut EP hit record-store shelves, but it was still the first thing many heard from or about this Agnostic Front side project. Considering the group's close relation to one of hardcore's most essential artists, it is hardly a surprise that Droppin' Many Suckers packs a mean punch. The 1994 offering has all the force one would expect from an experienced, committed hardcore outfit. "Spit on Your Grave" starts things off on a high note with its heavy riffing and urgent vocals. Other standouts include "We Should Care," "Ready to Fight," and "Step on You," with its killer rock groove offsetting vocalist Freddy Cricien's gruff rasp. A solid first outing, Droppin' Many Suckers is vintage hardcore delivered straight from musicians who know exactly what the genre is (and was) about. ~ Vincent Jeffries
Madball includes: Freddy Madball, Roger Miret.
Madball: Matt Henderson (vocals, guitar); Roger Miret (vocals, bass guitar); Freddy Cricien (vocals); Vinnie Stigma (guitar); Will Shepler (drums).

Droppin' Many Suckers songs
$14.29 (MP3 Available for Download) Miaow is one of those curious groups whose mystique and influential sway greatly overshadowed their meager recorded output. Between 1985-1987, the band contributed "Sport Most Royal" to NME's original C-86 compilation, recorded two sessions with legendary British DJ John Peel, and released an unforgettable single on Factory Records. If these feats don't solidify Miaow's old-school indie cred, vocalist Cath Carroll also wrote for NME, married Big Black guitarist Santiago Durango, and went on to be the fanboy fantasy of TeenBeat's Mark Robinson. But the best thing about Miaow's legacy? They actually deserve it. Songs like "Did She?," "Grocer's Dead Daughter," and "Following Through" sound so impossibly fresh, it's difficult to believe they aren't 21st century recordings from Slumber Party, Belle & Sebastian, or the Shermans. No matter what the genre was eventually called -- twee, indie pop, shambling, etc. -- Miaow's effortless melodies, bittersweet ...
| | Fiesta Picante: The Latin Jazz Party Collection CDs (1997)
Droppin' Many Suckers album
$8.39 Reaching all the way back to the beginnings of Concord Picante in 1979, which was originally created for the pleasure of the late Cal Tjader, Fiesta Picante traces nearly the entire history of the label in what amounts to a greatest-hits collection with a non-stop groove. While the music constantly looks backwards, with few progressive strains, the album succeeds as a summary of Picante and as an irresistible danceathon. Disc one is mostly devoted to tracks with a cha-cha or guajira beat, while disc two is dominated by the more rambunctious mambo style. One is struck by how many of Latin jazz's surviving stars have recorded for the label, often in thorough detail. Poncho Sanchez, the neo-classicist among them, gets five entries, including his faithful-to-the-letter re-creation ...
| | Jonathan Richman Not So Much To Be Loved As To Love CD (2004)
Droppin' Many Suckers CD music
$13.95 (MP3 Available for Download) Even his staunchest supporters will readily agree that Jonathan Richman has been doing basically the same thing since 1977; delivering deceptively simple lyrics in a child-like manner over spare rock & roll backing. The thing is, he's a genius in the musical world of his own making, a master of his own domain, and NOT SO MUCH... continues his reign. Okay, there are a couple of new developments--a serious, political song about reputedly innocent convict Mumia Abu Jamal and a few songs in French and Italian, but Jonathan has been singing in other languages at least since his '94 all-Spanish album.
For the most part, this is good old Jojo (his fans' affectionate nickname for the starry-eyed ...
