Time-Life's AM Gold: Radio Gems is a too brief collection of late-'60s and early-'70s pop songs that nonetheless captures a very entertaining moment in pop history. Tracks like Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talkin'," the Fifth Dimension's "Wedding Bell Blues," Hall & Oates' "Sara Smile," and the Guess Who's "These Eyes" are among the best tunes by those powerhouse artists. The rest of the disc is one-hit wonder territory with somewhat over-played but still fun songs like Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun," Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight," and Michael Martin Murphey's "Wildfire." Born in New York City, ROB BERRETTA grew up in Spain and Germany before returning to the U.S. to attend Wesleyan University. He moved back to New York in the late 80s and was a frequent performer on Manhattan's singer-songwriter circuit. Living as an ex-patriot gave Rob an opportunity to regard different cultures, including his own, from a distance, and many of his 200+ songs reflect the critical distance of an observer.
