| | Beny More Encantado De La Vida CD - Import Beny More Discography of CDs
Latin labels have put out quite a few Beny More compilations over the years. Released in 1997 by the Latin Musica Del Sol label, Encantado De Mi Vida focuses mainly on the Cuban band leader's classic son, mambo and boleros of the 1950s. The liner notes are far from ideal; while the CD booklet contains a short essay summarizing More's history, neither recording dates nor personnel are listed. Even if exact recording dates of these 12 songs weren't available, the company could have at least given the years in which they were recorded. But the songs themselves are certainly first rate. No salsero should be deprived of the exhilarating joys of such classics as "Mi Chiquita," "Cinturita," "Locas Por El Mambo" or "A Media Noche." Though much of Encantado is upbeat and danceable, More's magnificent way with dramatic boleros (Latin ballads) is illustrated by "Corazon Rebelde," "Oh Vida" and "Te Quedaras." Make no mistake -- everything on this disc is a gem. ~ Alex Henderson Encantado De La Vida Music Beny More Encantado De La Vida Songs | 1. | Encantado de la Vida (MP3) | $0.99 | |

$10.55 (MP3 Available for Download) Love's a Real Thing is an excellent introduction into the wild sound world of West Africa in the '70s. As Ronnie Graham points out in his superb liner notes, the '60s were a time of assimilation for much of the popular music of Africa. Many bands were playing a hybrid of Latin and African music typified by the Congolese rhumba of Franco & OK Jazz. The '70s were a different bag, though, with the heavy electric sounds of Jimi ...

$7.49 I’m not sure exactly what I thought I had in mind when I set out to do this recording. I had some rough ideas for how I wanted the songs to sound but nothing too concrete. Last April, Doug Mackey came into town all the way from the great state of Texas to get himself married, and just by luck had an afternoon he could spend working on tracks with me down at Pacific Studios . Some of the songs we’d played together before and some of them he was hearing for the first time that afternoon, but there’s a lot to be said for having played together for 24 years and in five short hours we had all the drums finished. If you had told me it was going to take another 6 months to get everything else recorded and mixed down I don’t think I would have believed you, but here it is all that time later and I just now got everything all finished and done. Most everything else, with the exception of a little guitar and a few of the vocal tracks, we recorded here at the Trailer Park in The Shed, my new studio. Tony Thomas coming on board early on to lend his bass and mixing talents was really what allowed this project to get finished and I don’t think I would be exaggerating if I said that this never would have come close to sounding as good as it does without his effort. I’d worked with Tony on The Prairie Dogs CD Brand New Heart and when he said he’d be interested in helping out with this CD I couldn’t believe my good luck. I guess I really didn’t realize in the beginning how much I would wind up relying on so many different people in the process of getting this done. It feels strange to call it a “solo album” since so little could have actually been done without a whole host of friends who lent me both their time and expertise. From Steve McElrath at threedollarchair.com whose great pictures and Photoshop ideas helped get the artwork finished and Tommy Shinn ...

Encantado De La Vida music CDs
$28.15 Like its predecessor, RCA Victor Presents Eartha Kitt, Eartha Kitt's second album, That Bad Eartha, also released in 1953, became a Top Five hit in a year when the curiosity about this exotic creature seemed to be limitless. Although she was actually from South Carolina by way of Harlem, Kitt came across as an international chanteuse, which spending a few years in Paris, among other places, will do for you. Her recording of "C'est Si Bon (It's So Good)," included here, had reached the Top Ten in August, preceded by a minor chart entry in "Uska Dara -- A Turkish Tale" and followed by another, "I Want to Be Evil." Both were also included. In addition to French and Turkish, Kitt sang in Spanish and Swahili, which was more than enough to justify her image as a classy import. Another part of that image was her somewhat predatory sex appeal, which was explored fully in "I Want to Be Evil" and two Cole Porter favorites, "Let's Do It" and "My Heart Belongs to Daddy." Of course, there ...
