Very Best Of album
$9.49 Zoot suits? Black & white Brando movies? Las Vegas show bands? Sounds like something your parents would dig, right? Wrong. Royal Crown Revue is the coolest of a small crop of bands that struck gold with their own niche in post-alternative pop. THE CONTENDER is not a collection of grunge guitar and gloomy, unintelligible lyrics; this is hot jumpin' swing with razor sharp horns, big, fat grooves and the hippest lounge-style vocals this side of the casino circuit.
Make no mistake; this is no gimmick. These cats blow the roof off the joint with enough swagger and swing to make Frank, Sammy and Dino proud. The whole clambake starts with a bang as the title cut comes on like gangbusters. Check out the ace tremolo pickin' on the hard swinging "Zip Gun Bop (Reloaded)" and the Krupa-esque hide-beatin' on "Big Boss Lee" and you'll know these cats aren't just frisking the whiskers. Other hip licks include a jumpin' "Stormy Weather" and the hottest "Salt Peanuts" since Dizzy himself. Get your mitts on this killer-diller, put on your best threads, grab your main squeeze and get ready to cut ...
| | Rumble!: The Best Of Link Wray CD (1993)
Very Best Of CD music
$7.99 RUMBLE! THE BEST OF LINK WRAY contains 20 tracks recorded between 1958 and 1976 including one live track. This anthology includes an 11-page booklet with historic black and white photographs, a discography and recording information as well as liner notes containing both biographical and track annotations.
Probably the most high-profile of all the available Link Wray compilations, Rhino's 1993 anthology RUMBLE: THE BEST OF LINK WRAY is also likely the best available single-disc set devoted to this largely underrated artist. Many of the guitar greats of earlier decades sound kind of, well, wimpy when heard after the more sonically aggressive--if often much less imaginative--guitarists who followed. This is not the case ...

Very Best Of songs
$6.49 On its third album, Wishbone Ash doesn't mess with its formula--as before, this long running British rock institution purveys a mix of blues, folk, and Yes- style riffs mated to endearingly cosmic lyrics. The songs here, however, are considerably ...
| | Ventures All Time Greatest Hits CD (1995)
Very Best Of album
$7.85 CEMA Special Markets' Play the Hits is different than the similarly titled Only the Hits in one key way -- it actually has the Ventures' hit singles! Of course, Play the Hits has a title that suggests it might be a collection of the Ventures playing other people's songs -- which is what Only the Hits was, and that had a title that suggested it was a straight hits collection. Budget-line discs always get confusing like this. Anyway, Play the Hits is a good collection, containing all of the basics -- "Walk, Don't Run," "Blue Moon," "Lolita Ya-Ya," "Secret Agent Man," "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue," and "Hawaii Five-O" -- which is enough to make it a very worthwhile budget-line disc. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
All Time Greatest Hits is a decent overview of the Ventures' early days, presenting 12 hit tracks that the instrumental band recorded in the late '50s and early '60s. Several of their Top Ten hits are included: "Hawaii Five-O," "Perfidia," "Men," "Lullabye of the Leaves," and "Walk - Don't Run", probably their biggest hit. Considering the amount of material the Ventures have released over the years, this collection is missing a few favorites ("Walk Don't Run '64," "Out of Limits"), but the midline pricing and original tracks make this a package worth picking up by the casual listener. ...

" It's nearly 30 years since joe camilleri originally joined the falcons of wayne burt and jeff burstin (both ex-rock granite) on guitars, john power (from the foreday riders and company caine) on bass and former daddy cool drummer gary young - to record a version of 'run rudolph run' as a christmas single produced by ross wilson. Even by that stage camilleri was a local veteran, having played with mid-60's r&b band the king bees, then the adderly smith blues band (which allegedly sacked him for sounding too much like mick jagger), lipp and the double dekker brothers, the sharks and the pelaco brothers (with stephen cummings). " After recording the albums 'don't waste it' and 'whip it out', the mini-albums 'loud and clear' and 'so young' (the title of which was covered by elvis costello) for oz records, the ...
