Other Side album
$11.15 The easy harmony sounds of Baltimore's Softones -- Marvin Brown, Steve Jackson, Elton Lynch, and Byron Summerville -- enjoyed limited popularity in the States, rarely ranging beyond the boundaries of the East Coast. Under Hugo & Luigi guidance, they scored with a fancy reworking of "That Old Black Magic" on H & L Records, but got labeled as remake artists and Hugo & Luigi studio puppets -- the producers/writers who stifled the Stylistics' record sales in the States. The Softones were forced to sing bad material, period! The Best of the Softones features one live cut, "You Go Your Way, I'll Go Mine," recorded in Japan, and 16 studio productions. They shine on the ...

$11.99 An excellent idea that might be slightly disappointing in the execution, All the Number Ones collects 18 singles that topped Billboard magazine's R&B charts, all performed either by New Edition or its members in their various outside projects. That results in a terrific, endlessly playable collection of urban pop-soul and new jack swing, but it also means that several of the collective's best-known songs are left off simply because they didn't top the R&B charts. Missing in action are Bobby Brown's "Roni" and "Rock Wit'cha," Bell Biv DeVoe's "Do Me!," Johnny Gill's "Fairweather Friend," and Ralph Tresvant's "Stone Cold Gentleman" and "Do What I Gotta Do," plus a bevy of New Edition hits. In fact, it might have been an even better idea to gather the biggest hits by the various New Edition spin-offs and leave the parent group's output alone; such an approach would have erased the contrast between the early New Edition bubblegum singles that lead off this collection and the grittier, funkier new jack hits that follow. Still, at least these omissions are due to the compilation's stated intent (collecting All the Number Ones and nothing ...

$12.59 Since 1999 Mainline has developed their unique blend of Southern California styles to bring you their latest work Notice of Disconnection 2006. For those who crave organization we would call our genre new school Southern California melodic rock metal tech punk or Mainline for short. We do what we want.We started in the living room of a townhouse in Hemet, CA shaking our neighbor’s pictures off her wall. Back then it was Bryan, Jeff and myself (Mike). Before then Bryan and Ciamak had been in a couple of different bands together and Jeff had been jamming in bands for about eight years. I was the only person with zero experience; just a few books full of lyrics and an acute inability to sing in key. So we continued jamming and sticking beer bottle caps into the stucco.Later we added Ciamak in 2000 and went into Park Hill Studio in Hemet to record our first album. Parkhill was a studio which was way too nice for a fledgling band such as ourselves and an inexperienced singer such as me but it was a great learning experience and helped us learn about real studio recording. We left the studio with ten songs that we never released except to some friends; it was called Dead Before We Die. A few of those songs ended up rerecorded on the 2003 release of Placebo.Placebo was recorded at Studio Nine (then Pamona, now Ontario) by Darrell. Placebo received some nation wide college radio play and was put on the Never Lift Off Road video (30,000 copies in the first run) and on a Throttle music compilation (3000 copies). A year or so after we released Placebo we added Jesse Montano to the band. Jesse had played in a couple of bands with Bryan a few years earlier and fit right in. With the new guitarist we locked ourselves away in our practice room and practiced four nights a week for about two years before going to record our next album Notice of Disconnection. We took our time on this our third recording. Notice of Disconnection was recorded at Sound Sanctuary in Riverside by Phil. Currently we are shopping these independent releases to achieve national distribution/tour ...

Other Side album
$10.59 On their fine full-length debut, GIRLS AND WEATHER, the Rumble Strips present a vibrant, guitar-driven set of Britpop tunes, songs that place them comfortably in the same U.K. rock territory as the Futureheads, Kaiser Chiefs, and Maximo Park, particularly in the heavily accented vocals of singer/guitarist Charles Waller. What sets these ...
