| | As Good As It Gets: Country Blues CD
Includes liner notes by Dave Travis. For the most part, the Disky label's As Good As It Gets series lives up to its title, dividing early influential musical genres (gospel, cajun, hillbilly, jazz, etc.) into budget-priced two-disc samplers. As Good As It Gets: Country Blues includes 52 original classic performances from the likes of Big Bill Broonzy, Blind Willie McTell, Memphis Minnie, Robert Johnson, Son House, the Memphis Jug Band, and Skip James. While collectors will more than likely already have this material, this compilation is a perfect place for curious listeners to begin. ~ Al Campbell As Good As It Gets: Country Blues Music As Good As It Gets: Country Blues Review

As Good As It Gets: Country Blues
$11.39 From the Palm Beach Post - 9-3-2004By Bill Meredith www.PalmBeachPost.com"The artist still known as Prince:Pencil Logic is the tongue-in-cheek title (think Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic) of the latest CD by area singer/songwriter Lee Prince. But anyone who's seen him live expects a modicum of parody - the singing guitarist's take on Harry Chapin's Cat's in the Cradle is the morbid Chinese restaurant spoof, Cat's in the Kettle."Let's see, how do I categorize Lee?" asks fellow singer/songwriter Jason Colannino. "All that I can say is that he is genuine. His style of music is true Americana. The best folk I've ever heard, with a tease of blues. He has a great sense of musicianship and an honest voice."The fingerpicking guitarist's voice graces both originals (the title track; Bright and New) and unique covers (the Kingston Trio's Scotch and Soda; Fats Waller's Ain't Misbehavin') on Pencil Logic."_____From Boca Magazine - July/August 2004 issueBy R. S. Pollack www.Bocamag.comLee Prince - Storyteller "There is a levity to Lee Prince's music that makes you want to smile. Yet as you listen, you get a sense that this veteran singer/songwriter has a message. In "Pencil Logic," a seemingly innocuous tune, Prince weaves a yarn centered on pencils that go out of control and make mistakes. The user of the pencil, in Prince's world, is ...
| | Trentalange Photo Album Of Complex Relationships CD (2006)
As Good As It Gets: Country Blues
$10.65 Evocative and atmospheric. It should come as no surprise that Barbara Trentalange - the voice and creative force behind Trentalange - is also a visual artist. Lush, moody and provocative, the songs on "Photo Album of Complex Relationships" are cinematic soundscapes built upon instrumentation that includes cello, piano, flute, bass and percussion, with Trentalage's voice - velvety and emotive - as the foundation and centerpiece. After touring as part of the most recent line-up of Crooked Fingers and fronting the darkly sophisticated Seattle band Spyglass, the chance to write and record her songs was a liberating and intriguing experience. Trentalange wrote, recorded and performed the vast majority of the album herself. Members of Crooked Fingers, Spyglass and Head Like a Kite added flourishes before Trentalange joined producer Martin Feveyear (Rosie Thomas, The Dark Fantastic) and drummer Mark Pickerel (Screaming Trees, Neko Case, Brandi Carlisle) at Seattle's Jupiter Studios to add the finishing touches of drums and vocals. The resulting 12 songs are indeed striking (and sometimes unsettling) snapshots of lust, longing, terror, grief and loneliness. The relationships in "Photo Album of Complex Relationships" ...
