Most of the other significant moments in Loose Ends' history are provided here, making it the one disc to snap up, since all of the group's albums were uneven affairs. The biggest singles -- "Hangin' on a String (Contemplating)," "Stay a Little While, Child," "Slow Down," "Watching You," "Don't Be a Fool" -- are included, but a couple key album tracks are missing in action. Studio albums do little to shed light on the true value of an artist as a performer. Sitting in a recording booth belting out rehearsed tunes in relative privacy has a different affect on an artist than singing that same song in front of thousands of on-lookers, especially at a place where expectations run high, like Reggae Sunsplash.
Reggae Sunsplash is Jamaica's most revered music series for reggae music. All of the greats, including Bob Marley, have performed at one time or another, and it certainly isn't the correct forum to give a lackluster performance. So Big Youth delivered, and the crowd's many bursts of joy that occur throughout this disc are proof enough of his abilities.

One of Bob Marley & the Wailers' finest collections, AFRICAN HERBSMAN belongs alongside CATCH A FIRE and NATTY DREAD as an essential Marley recording.
