| | Joe Jackson Universal Masters Collection CD - Import Joe Jackson Discography of CDs
This 18-track anthology gathers favorites by new wave singer-songwriter Joe Jackson.
Everything on this Joe Jackson collection is right musically, and there are many hits here including no less than three from his breakthrough album, Night and Day. The album is curiously compiled, following a rather strangely placed aesthetic order rather than a chronological one, which makes no sense on a single-disc compilation. There are two tracks from Look Sharp! ("Is She Really Going Out with Him," and "Sunday Papers") and only one from I'm the Man ("It's Different for Girls" -- not even the title cut!), while there is only a single cut from Beat Crazy ("Mad at You"). There are a couple from Body and Soul ("Happy Ending" and "You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want),") and his version of Jimmy Cliff's "Harder They Come." The other tracks come from live dates and later albums. It's OK as far as it goes, but this should have been a double-disc. ~ Thom Jurek

Universal Masters Collection
$13.95 Recorded live at the Roundabout Theatre, New York City on January 22-25, 1986.
On his previous couple of albums, Jackson had tried on various styles, inhabiting one or two for the length of a record, or at least for a few songs. On BIG WORLD, he brings all his influences together for a constantly shifting amalgam of textures and styles. After the relative excess of BODY AND SOUL, the band ...

Universal Masters Collection
$11.59 I Don't Want to Lose You Baby was Chad & Jeremy's fourth new album to be released within 14 months, which may help to explain the thinness of the material. Van McCoy contributed another Top 40 hit in the somewhat overwrought title track, and the ...

| | Al Stewart 24 Carrots CD (1980) Bonus Tracks
Universal Masters Collection
$10.45 "Here In Angola," "Pandora," and "Indian Summer" were originally released on the LP INDIAN SUMMER.
24 CARROTS is folk-rocker Al Stewart's 1980 album, recorded with Shot in the Dark. This reissue features five bonus tracks, "Here in Angola", "Indian Summer", "Pandora", "Delia's Gone", and "Princess Olivia".
The pun of the title of 24 Carrots -- the first overt signal of humor Al Stewart has displayed in years, possibly ever -- illustrates that a lot has changed since 1978's Time Passages. The loosening of his wit is ...

When They Might Be Giants first appeared in the late '80s, it was hard to predict that the whimsical alt-rock duo would still be going strong over a dozen years later. However, MINK CAR stands as further proof of the band's staying power, mostly attributable to the endlessly inventive songcraft of Johns Linnell and Flansburgh. These days, the pair fleshes out the TMBG sound with a backing band that includes a couple of erstwhile members of the late, lamented Lincoln, the Chris Temple-headed band that logged a lot of road time with the Giants in the late '90s.
In the manner of the surprise ...
