Purchase Savage Poetry CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Hammerfall Glory To The Brave CD (1997) Deluxe Edition
Savage Poetry album
$13.49 Glory to the Brave is indeed a classic power metal record -- no frills or progressive elements here, just speed-laden, melodic, grandiose anthems about honor, glory, and slaying dragons. And the group manages to generally steer clear of the campiness that plagued bands like Manowar. Of note are the pro-Crusades lyrics of "Steel Meets Steel," atypical sentiments in a genre known for rebelling against religion. Overall this stuff isn't new or groundbreaking, but it's performed passionately enough that you'd think you were starting to experience the New Wave of British Heavy Metal the first time around. ...
| | Edguy Theater Of Salvation CDs (1999)
Savage Poetry CD music
$10.35 After making huge strides between their first and second albums, Edguy make another huge leap in quality with the brilliant Theater of Salvation. The songwriting is even more powerful, and it is consistent from the first note to the last. There are two slower tracks and everything else is very fast. Tobias Sammet's vocals are much improved, perhaps because he was relieved of his bass-playing duties for the first time on this album. Some of the better tracks are "The Headless Game," "Land of the Miracle," "Wake Up the King," "The Unbeliever," ...
| | Opera Metal Metal Opera CD (2001)
Savage Poetry music CDs
$10.35 An all-star aggregation similar in conception to Ayreon, Avantasia's The Metal Opera naturally spotlights its creator, Tobias Sammet, who wrote all the music and the involved fantasy storyline over the course of a year as a side project from his main gig with the German power metal band Edguy. Though Sammet's vocals play a major role, he recruited some of his power metal contemporaries to sing the parts of different characters in the story, tailoring his casting choices -- elves, dwarves, Druids, and other D&D-type mainstays -- to their vocal ranges. (Oddly, given the themes, there's a bit of a Christian undertone to the lyrics.) It's tempting to say that for a grandiose conceptual project like this, the scope of the ambition is more important (and entertaining) than the actual results. Everything here is painted in such sweeping colors -- the epic song lengths, the heroic themes of the narrative, the bombastic arrangements, even the brief Latin-titled interludes -- that it can be difficult to see how the album could ever achieve the heights it aims for, even if it turns out well. But no matter how over the top things get, it still takes a certain level of craft to pull off ...
| | Avantasia Metal Opera PT. 2 CD (2002)
Savage Poetry songs
$10.45 Long-awaited second part of the chart breaker Avantasia by mastermind Tobia Sammet from Edguy and featuring members of Gamma Ray, Rhapsody, Virgin Steele, Within Temptation, Warrior, Helloween, Angra, Kiss & Stratovarious! This Century Media Records release includes 2 bonus tracks 'Chalice Of Agony' (edit version) & 'Avantasia' (single version) for a total of 12. 2002.
Eagerly anticipated by power metal audiences who embraced Tobias Sammet's first Avantasia project, the aptly titled The Metal Opera, Pt. 2 essentially offers more of the same, in sound, style, and personnel. Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween) gets credit for his appearance this time out, following his mystery cameo as "Ernie" on the first record, and a number of the featured vocalists from Pt. 1 reprise their characters on the second installment; new faces include Bob Catley ...

| | Shadow Gallery Carved In Stone CD (1995)
Savage Poetry music CDs
$13.45 The follow-up to Shadow Gallery is a progressive rock masterpiece. The biggest change from the debut is band maturity and album production. While Shadow Gallery showed the band's tremendous potential, Carved in Stone finds the band fulfilling that potential. The songwriting, already good, is much better and more consistent. This album is about as well produced as any. "Cliffhanger" opens the album on a medium tempo with a great guitar solo at the end. "Crystalline Dream" and "Don't Ever Cry, Just Remember" follow ...
| | Paul McCartney Mccartney 2 CD (1980) Bonus Tracks
Savage Poetry songs
$10.49 McCARTNEY II, like it's titular predecessor a decade earlier, is all Paul. He handles all the instruments and vocals here, and even produced and engineered the album himself. That's pretty much where the comparison ends, though. While many of the cuts do have a light-hearted feel a la McCARTNEY, this is a much more song-oriented album, and is an unjustly overlooked entry in the McCartney catalogue.
The hit "Coming Up" is McCartney at his most infectious ...
| | Katatonia Dance Of December Souls CD (1993)
Savage Poetry album
$9.85 With their first full album, 1993's Dance of December Souls, Sweden's Katatonia proved that classic death/doom need not come from England, whence, until then, the genre had flourished at the hands of Paradise Lost, Anathema, and My Dying Bride. In fact, December manages to drag heavy metal to a near-standstill along with the best of 'em, combining cookie-monster growls, slothful riffing, morbid guitar (and, snuck in now and then, morbid synthesizer) melodies, and slow but busy drumming into a mesmerizing wash of depression. Eight-minute highlight "Gateways of Bereavement" and the desolately beautiful ...

Savage Poetry music CDs
$27.25 It isn't uncommon for the more melodic death metal and black metal bands in Sweden, Norway, and Finland to incorporate Scandinavian folk; in fact, many of them have done it successfully. But what transpires on Hardingrock's Grimen -- a project featuring Ihsahn of the well-known Norwegian black metal band Emperor -- isn't really black metal or death metal per se. Perhaps the best way to describe this hard to categorize CD is "Norwegian folk-rock with elements of ambient electronica and occasional black metal-influenced rasp vocals." All of the vocals (which range from the clean vocals of female singer Heidi S. Tveitan to Ihsahn's demonic-sounding rasp) are in Norwegian, and despite Ihsahn's presence, Grimen doesn't sound anything like an Emperor album. Anyone ...
