Of Blackest Magick album
$6.25 The British version of this release is titled KILLING MACHINE.
Principally recorded at Utopia, Basing Street and CBS Studios, London, England in 1978. Includes liner notes by Judas Priest.
Judas Priest's 1979 release, HELL BENT FOR LEATHER (titled KILLING MACHINE in Europe), continued the band's late '70s winning streak, which included such metal classics as SAD WINGS OF DESTINY, SIN AFTER SIN, and STAINED CLASS. Such deliciously heavy tracks as "Delivering the Goods," the title track, the U.K. hit single "Take On the World," and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)," showed that nobody could touch singer Rob Halford and company when it came to power metal. Landing a spot as the opening act on Kiss' U.S. tour the same year, Priest were gearing ...

| | Uriah Heep Raging Silence CD (1989) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Of Blackest Magick album
$12.39 Uriah Heep is one of the few heavy metal/hard rock outfits that can rival Deep Purple when it comes to an abundance of personnel changes; you could write a book about the many different Uriah Heep lineups that existed in the 1970s and 1980s. Because it was such a revolving door, its work became increasingly erratic as time passed -- many headbangers gave up on the band in the late '70s. Recorded in 1988 and 1989 and released in April 1989, Raging Silence is the work of a band that was long past its prime. On this CD, the five-man lineup includes founder/guitarist Mick Box as well as lead singer Bernie Shaw, bassist Trevor Bolder, keyboardist Phil Lanzon, and drummer Lee Kerslake. The material is generic arena rock -- try as it might, Uriah Heep is unable to recapture the magic and creativity of its early years. Corporate rock items like "Cry Freedom" and "Blood Red Roses" are mildly catchy, and a cover of Argent's "Hold Your Head Up" is pleasant enough. But even so, Raging Silence pales in comparison to classics like 1971's Look at Yourself and 1972's Demons and Wizards. Not a disaster but certainly unremarkable, this CD is strictly for completists. ~ Alex Henderson

The bonus track is a live performance of Look at Yourself's title song, which, unfortunately, only serves as reminder of how average the studio material is. Not a disaster but certainly unremarkable, this CD is strictly for completists. [In 2006, Sanctuary released a version of Raging Silence that includes seven bonus tracks.] ~ Alex Henderson
Digitally remastered by Mike Brown and Robert M. Corich.

| | Akir Legacy CD (2006)
Of Blackest Magick CD music
$10.79 The producer/MC known as Akir (short for Always Keep It Real) first caught attention for his work with Immortal Technique on REVOLUTIONARY VOL. 1. Two years after his acclaimed 2004 debut, Akir returns with LEGACY-- another tight underground release that succeeds due to true school production, challenging subject matter, and straightforward mic skills. LEGACY features beats from Southpaw, DJ Static, Y.G., and Akir himself as well as cameos from an all-star team of underground heads, including Jean Grae, Dujeous, Poison Pen, Mojo, Veks One, Immortal Technique, and Abiodun of the Last Poets.
THE LEGACY is the debut release of New York-based rapper Akir (whose name is an acronym for Always Keeping It Real). Possessing a tough, no-nonsense lyrical flow that recalls the literate street poetics of Nas at his most politically engaged, this is an album that pulls no punches in its scathing indictment of the state of American affairs, not to mention the base materialism of much of the hip-hop community.
Akir's fiercely intelligent, grimly resonant rhymes display a mastery of technique, as well providing insightful commentary. Decrying the hypocrisy and manipulative double-speak of politicians on "Politricks," he raps: "I don't follow the news they just add to my blues/politicians and they big feats could never fill my shoes," echoing the frustration felt by urban youth faced with more immediate concerns. Featuring a coterie of guest appearances by politically minded guests including Immortal Technique and Jean Grae, THE LEGACY is an auspicious premiere by a young conscious-rap artist on the rise.
WEBSITE: OKAYPLAYER.COM RATING: 4/5 "...A lot of MC’s are trying to cheapen the value of the music, but etiquette has to be shown across the board. Akir is just that guy, who expresses his love for his family and friends, and for the place he calls home. He backs himself on the mic nicely with a number of tracks meant ...
