Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Goth metal may once have been a term of opprobrium -- but then again who knows? Whatever the case, it makes perfect sense with time, even if Black Sabbath already laid down the blueprint years ago, and that's one reason why Cult of Luna's second album, The Beyond, is so astoundingly great. One of Earache's many signings from Scandinavia over the moons, the band has the primal doom-laden punch of groups like the Cure and the God Machine going into their sound, tempered with the hoarse, wide-eyed vocals of Klas Rydberg. If some of his lyrics are merely standard tropes for the field, he never lets the band down at any point, and, if anything, holds back from singing most of the time to let the music make whatever point it needs to. Meanwhile, the steady deliberation of the rhythm section does the whole death-march-trudge thing pretty darn well. If you take the fire of the most emotive gospel singer, the passion of the most infamous soul men, and the poetic introspection of the “serious” singer/songwriters and put them together, the result is the music and artistry of Tim Dillinger.Originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, Tim was reared on the sounds of gospel artists such as Andraé Crouch, The Hawkins Family and The Clark Sisters, as well as the soulful sounds of Teena Marie, Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan.As Tim became an avid reader, he was inspired by the masterful writings of literary legends James Baldwin, Ntozake Shange and Richard Wright, which influenced him in his ever-developing craft as a songwriter.Tim began working professionally at the age of 18, traveling and singing with Grammy nominated gospel artist Beverly Crawford. That opportunity brought him further work with artists such as Grammy nominated vocalist Táta Vega and Grammy Award winning Christian artist Reba Rambo.Tim relocated to Nashville in 2001 and transitioned out of the gospel arena and into mainstream R&B. He began singing hooks for hip-hop artists such as Nina Ross, Big Chopper and Kyhil, establishing a reputation in the southern region.
