(3 Customer Reviews)
Principally recorded at The Village Recorder, West Los Angeles, California.
With I Can Stand a Little Rain, Joe Cocker returned to interpreting songs instead of essaying his original songs. As usual, there are a couple of highlights, but a couple of awkward choices prevent the album from being as effective as Joe Cocker! or Mad Dogs & Englishmen. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Great VOICE and songs!! I am becoming attached to this album. I love every song and the tone of his voice. I could play "Performance" over and over, as well as "Guilty," the title song, and "You Are So Beautiful," etc. This may be my favorite. Submitted by Gail (NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | David Gilmour CD (1978) Remastered
I Can Stand A Little Rain CD music
$6.79 Before David Gilmour virtually "became" Pink Floyd he was always the most likely member of the band (with the possible exception of de-facto leader Roger Waters) to release a solo album. 1978's welcome eponymous debut showcased his multi-faceted performing talents.
The album opener "Mihalis" is an ANIMALS period instrumental, which, along with "Raise My Rent," sounds like an outtake from that album. The beautiful "There's No Way Out of Here" begins with a lonely harmonica and, with "No Way" and ...

| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
I Can Stand A Little Rain CD music
$20.29 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, ...
| | Kid 'N Play 2 Hype CD (1988)
I Can Stand A Little Rain music CDs
$11.65 Kid 'n Play have been unfairly branded as pop sellouts over the years, despite the fact that they really never had a big crossover hit single. It was more their image that crossed over -- they had their own unique sense of visual style, yet they were positive, non-threatening, and, well, too gosh-darn friendly for the taste of street-level purists. Plus, they were young and clean-cut enough for middle-class teenage audiences to identify with. Accusations of being soft notwithstanding, those qualities are exactly what give their debut album, 2 Hype, its refreshing charm. There isn't much on ...
| | John Harrison, III Roman Sun CD (2001)
I Can Stand A Little Rain songs
$13.15 John Harrison belongs to that school of pianists who play with a flourish without becoming florid, similar to Ahmad Jamal with roots in the lyricism of Bill Evans. Harrison uses the whole; he employs runs and arpeggios to extend the range of the instrument. He applies his technique to a variety of tunes represented by the ...

| | Early Steppenwolf/For Ladies Only CDs (2005) (Import) Remastered; United Kingdom
I Can Stand A Little Rain CD music
$21.05 Finally, BGO completes its Steppenwolf reissue program with this double disc. The second disc is For Ladies Only, which is negligible at best. But it's disc one that counts, with the reemergence of Early Steppenwolf, which was recorded in 1967 at San Francisco's Matrix. The band was actually called the Sparrow when this set was recorded, but the Steppenwolf sound was already in place. Before "Born to Be Wild" and the other hits, this band was a wild, woolly monster, and this set proves that in spades. It contains covers of classic blues tunes -- John Lee Hooker's "I'm Going Upstairs," Howlin' Wolf's "Howlin' for My Darlin'," the traditional "Corrina, Corrina" with the band's own greasy arrangement imprimatur, and Hoyt Axton's "The Pusher." It also features ...
