Axis was a legendary band with Shreveport, Louisiana as its home base with local guitar hero, Danny Johnson, the drummer's drummer Vinnie Appice and bassist Jay Davis. Axis joined forces in NY with Rick Derringer in the 70's as the Derringer band. The ageless rock anthems of 'Armageddon' and 'Bandits of Rock' foreshadow Danny's next project of his solo band in the early 80's as Danny Johnson & The Bandits. In the 90's Danny joined John Kay & Steppenwolf, with Danny and John Kay's band opening the shows as The Rebels. In 2008 the original Derringer band reunited for a tour and hopefully more great rock and roll hoochie coo! Do you want to go to Heaven? Do it - rock n' roll style with Axis!
Over the years, rock & roll has had its share of one-album wonders-artists who only recorded one album when it seemed like they should have built a large catalogue. Axis turned out be one of those one-album wonders, which came as a surprise because the late 1970s power trio had potential. Consisting of Vinny Appice (Carmine Appice's brother) on drums and background vocals, Jay Davis on bass and lead vocals and Danny Johnson on guitar and lead vocals, Axis boasted talented musicians even though its material fell short of mind-blowing. It's A Circus World isn't a gem, but it's a decent collection of commercial arena rock. Catchy, if unremarkable, tunes like "Ray's Electric Farm" and "Cats in the Alley" gave one reason to believe that Axis might be around for awhile-the listener figured that even though this 1978 LP is imperfect, Axis could easily develop into a major force in arena rock on subsequent albums. But there were no subsequent albums for Axis, whose first album was also its last. ~ Alex Henderson
Personnel: Danny Johnson (vocals, guitar); Vinny Appice (vocals, drums, background vocals); Jay Davis (vocals).

| It's A Circus World Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Great Rock This is for me a very good album. There is an original rock feeling and also a new sound. The drummer Vinny Appice shows his skills at the first time, after the this record i starts to play with Black Sabbath and then with Dio. Buy this CD

Axis at their best This is a must have for anyone that loves rock & roll from the 70's, far above any of the bands that were on the radio at the time as far as music and words go. if you dont have this one you need it. Submitted by a reviewer (southern california) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Best guitar album of all time? I bought this record the week it came out in 1978 listened to it everyday for ten years! I couldn't get enough of it and still can't, I've turned countless musicians on to it because this is the way melodic hard music should be played! It's too bad thier label just didn't know what they had at the time. I saw them play every show in L.A. and my band opened several of the shows, I love this band, and Danny Johnson is a great person as well as a great guitar player. Do yourself a big faver and get this C.D. you deserve it! Submitted by gregleoninvasion (La,Crescenta, Calif.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The best rock album of all time!!!! You can agree or disagree, but it doesn't change the fact it's the best rock album of all time!!! Submitted by Joseph Kurt (Manhattan Beach, California) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Power Trio Rock! This could be the best album you've never heard! Fresh out of the great band "Derringer" guitarist Danny Johnson (not Johnston as the lame reveiw above states) and drummer Vinnie Appice (who always sounds good in the studio as opposed to his live sound) crafted an album of great songs that are varied enough but not too much to appease any fan of 70's rock. It's too bad RCA didn't have the foresight to back them causing this to die a quick death. This is on a small label so you better buy it NOW before it goes out of print. $17.05 “Hoola\" is a Sydney based Hawaiian-style string band featuring vocals, steel guitar, ukulele, guitar & bass. The music on this album is essentially “Hapa Haole”, that early European influenced Hawaiian music played by both natives and Caucasians. What you hear on the album is respectful of the tradition but influenced by later playing styles.A good ninety years after the start of the great southern Hawaiian craze that swept Australia (along with the rest of the world), sixteen tunes were recorded in one session at a local Sydney studio. Twelve cuts made it to the CD as follows:SLEEPWALK1959 hit for the Italian-American duo Santo & Johnny, this song was the last instrumental hit of the 1950s. Almost a “steel guitar anthem”, this is always popular on our gigs. Written by Santo, John & Ann Farina.ISA LEIWe play this Fijian tune (like “Aloha Oe” deemed a “farewell song”) a lot faster than the Fijians who play it as a sad dreamy ballad. Composed by Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba in 1918.YELLOW BIRDMore a Caribbean than Hawaiian ditty, we’ve included this song for the fun harmonies and the island mood it conveys. At mix-down it became apparent that it needed something else and Tony changed his guitar part to a Beguine rhythm. It was recorded by the famous Hawaiian “Exotica” vibraphonist Arthur Lyman, becoming his signature tune. Crafted by Marilyn Keith, Alan Bergman and Norman Luboff, 1957. SLEEPY LAGOONmusic by Eric Coates 1926. An “English Hawaiian” song. We became aware of it from Sneaky Pete Kleinow’s incredible version recorded in the 1970s. This follows the style and format of Sneaky’s version with its tasteful use of pedals. LA ROSITAA tango written in 1923 by Allan Stuart and Paul Dupont (Gustave Haenschen), this is one of the fun romantic tunes we play. Lots of light and shade and a very musical mix by David Dempsey. MAUI CHIMES1899. The melody is based on a well-known American children’s song “My Boat is Sailing” which was re-birthed as “Maui” ...
