Possessing a richly deep and well-oiled voice, Joss especially shines on the traditional-sounding cuts -- particularly two cool Jim Lauderdale-penned tunes, "Doin' Time in Bakersfield" and "Stay Out of My Arms." And although most of the 11 cuts come from such notable writers as Kostas, Kevin Welch, and Tom Russell, among others, Joss proves himself more than a capable songwriter with the standout ballad "I Never Got Anywhere With You." True Country Music
Scott Joss initial solo album from indie label, Little Dog Records, proves what a truly talented musician he is. The 11 track album consists of mostly cover tunes, but Joss makes them his own with that distinctive baritone voice. And there is only pure, true, traditional country music on this album - no Nashvill pop-abilly to be heard, which makes the album one of the best for anyone wanting to learn about the real stuff. Joss sings lead/backups and plays fiddle and mandolin; additional musicians include Skip Edwards, Jim E. Christie, Taras Prodaniuk and Pete Anderson.
