FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS FINEST is a greatest-hits collection with three previously-unreleased tracks.
Fine Young Cannibals includes: Roland Gift (vocals); Andy Cox (guitar); David Steele (keyboards, bass).
Fine Young Cannibals only released two albums, so it's slightly unusual that they even have a greatest-hits collection like Fine Young Cannibals Finest. After all, a dedicated fan will have both records, and casual fans will only want the singles on The Raw & the Cooked, thereby eliminating the audience for the collection. Despite these misgivings, Finest does its job well, featuring 12 of their biggest hits and best-known songs ("She Drives Me Crazy," "Johnny Come Home," "Good Thing," "Suspicious Minds," "Don't Look Back"), plus two unreleased cuts ("The Flame" and "Since You've Been Gone") to entice collectors. If you want the highlights, Finest is fine, but most fans will want to stick with the two original albums. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
UK edition of the trio's 1996 compilation features one bonus track over the U.S. pressing (now entitled Greatest Hits): 'Johnny Come Home' (Johnny Takes A Trip Mix). With only two studio albums to their name, FYC have never officially split although vocalist Roland Gift has released solo material and musicians (and former English Beat members) Dave Cox and David Steele have recorded under different pseudonyms. For fans, this collection does feature a '96 'newly recorded' cut entitled 'Flame'. Also features the hits 'She Drives Me Crazy', 'Johnny Come Home', 'Suspicious Minds', 'Good Thing' and many more. Warner.

Producers include: Roland Gift, Andy Cox, David Steele, David Z, Robin Miller.Entertainment Weekly (12/20/96, pp.76-77) - "...Their sound--post-punk's nervous rhythms combined with soulful arrangements and melodies--has held up well; three new songs neither augment nor diminish the band's brief yet impressive legacy." - Rating: B+ Q (12/96, p.158) - 4 Stars (out of 5) - "...spooky, unique vocalese, great tunes, wonky, memorable guitar licks and rhythms that would persuade Sepultura fans to shake a leg. In short, we've forgotten just how good they were." Finest Review

It took until the mid-'70s for a trumpeter to emerge who could not only emulate Dizzy Gillespie, but display a larger range: Jon Faddis. Unfortunately, Gillespie and his protégé barely recorded together, and this 1977 encounter at the Montreux Jazz Festival is quite disappointing. The trumpeters (plus vibraphonist Milt Jackson, pianist Monty Alexander, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Jimmie Smith) play well enough on "Girl of My Dreams," "Get Happy," "The Champ," and a ballad medley, but there are, amazingly enough, no tradeoffs between Faddis and Gillespie (the younger trumpeter is much too respectful throughout this session), and few fireworks occur in what should have been an explosive encounter. ~ Scott Yanow
Recorded at Mountain Recording Studios, Montreux, Switzerland on July 14, 1977. Originally released on Pablo Live (2308-211). Includes liner notes by Norman Granz.

| | Damned Jack And The Beanstalk CD (2002) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; United Kingdom
Finest songs
$11.79 This digitally remastered reissue of The Damned's JACK AND THE BEANSTALK features four bonus tracks, as well as a beautiful prism-effect front cover.
Five years after the Damned seemingly called it quits for good, and five years before Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible decided to give the band another go on 2001's Grave Disorder, Vanian and Rat Scabies found themselves working together on a recording project with Kris Dollimore (ex-Godfathers), Alan Lee Shaw (ex-Rings/Brains/Maniacs), and Moose (ex-New Model Army). Stuck for a name, someone figured, "Why not just call it the Damned?" and I'm Alright Jack and the Beanstalk became the first Damned studio album since Anything in 1986. One could honestly say with this release that Vanian picked up where the band left off in 1986, but given the low creative ebb of Anything, that's something short of a compliment. In the liner notes Scabies said, "I wanted to make a record that wasn't like a punk album," and this soggy mishmash of hard rock, goth, and art rock "succeeds" in that approach, lacking any of the fire, fervor, or snotty wit that made the Damned great. Even the dark pop smarts of the group's later-day singles such as "Under the Floor Again" or "Grimly Fiendish" escape the reconstituted Damned this time out, and the fact this album passed under the radar of many Damned fans is more a favor to them than anything else. ~ Mark Deming

Released in Europe in 1996, I'm Alright Jack & the Beanstalk didn't appear in the United States until 2002, in an edition which added four songs from a BBC radio session (including a version of "Neat Neat Neat" that's easily the most exciting thing on the disc); the album appeared in Japan a year prior to its U.K. release under the title Not of This Earth. ~ Mark Deming

$11.49 Hilary Duff led a pretty charmed childhood, with her performing career moving from a successful television show as a pre-teen to blockbuster movies and a major recording deal as a teen. Just shy of 17 years old, Duff released her second record, a self-titled follow-up to the hugely successful METAMORPHOSIS. 2004's HILARY DUFF discards the bubble-gum edges of its predecessor and sets forth a certain rock power. Duff's music is no vanity project, and her sophomore release reveals a creative, self-aware artist.
Duff opens with "Fly," an intricately layered, soaring ballad. Throughout the record, Duff's topics focus on the trials of growing up, learning to understand ...
