This is a collection of tracks recorded by the Scottish rock band Texas.
Although relatively unknown in the U.S., the Scottish pop/rock ensemble Texas garnered a huge following in the U.K. and elsewhere, essentially making the band's charismatic vocalist, Sharleen Spiteri, the Sheryl Crow of Europe. This well-selected collection draws from the ensemble's 1990s heyday, and includes the country-tinged "I Don't Want a Lover," the R&B-leaning "Say What You Want," and the emotive ballad "Put Your Arms Around Me," giving ample evidence of why Texas has such a considerable following across the Atlantic.
The best of the Scottish band on one volume that includes the single "In Demand" (produced and co-written by Dallas Austin) along with other previously unreleased tracks. The group re-recorded some tunes like "So In Love With You", which features the return of original member Craig Armstrong. Gregg Alexander (of New Radicals fame) collaborated on "My Inner Smile". Greatest Hits album
$10.45 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward.
Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed.
By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first orchestral-rock album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, from which "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights in White Satin" are included on this album.
Over the next few years the band banged out several gem albums that were full of a distinctive mix of folk-tinged ballads and ambitious prog-rock. Cuts from this period take up a healthy piece of this collection. ...
| | Very Best Of Deep Purple CD (2000)
Greatest Hits CD music
$7.79 Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (DigiPrep).
Rhino Records first attracted notice for its ability to assemble good, well-thought-out, best-of and greatest-hits compilations of acts who had enjoyed a chart placement (or two) without ever getting a proper hits package from their own labels; a little later Rhino started their "Very Best Of" series, which managed to be medium-weight but pretty thorough overviews of a lot of major acts (especially in R&B) from the past that needed a fresh look. But in 2000, when they released The Very Best of Deep Purple -- a band that needed no helping hand in the exposure area -- in conjunction with Warner Archives, that was something new for the company. And damned if Deep Purple and their fans, casual or serious, didn't benefit stunningly from Rhino's usual excellence on this CD. For one thing -- and this is pretty amazing -- this disc, with nearly 80-minutes of music, was the most thorough and thoughtful overview of the band's work ever released in the United States; EMI may have come close in England with Singles A's & B's but the sound here is better, to put it mildly. It's not just that Bill Inglot's tape research and engineering are very good -- it's that the sound here is so rich and resonant (as well as -- natch -- loud), that even original lead singer Rod Evans is finally shown at his best, doing what amounted to heavy metal "crooning" next to Ian Gillan's rock-god shrieks. What's more, with the sound as clear ...
| | Tim Mcgraw Set This Circus Down CD (2001)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$5.85 SET THIS CIRCUS DOWN was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "Grown Men Don't Cry" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Don't hate Tim McGraw because he's married to one of the most glamorous women in contemporary country music (Faith Hill). Don't hate him because he wears a ten-gallon hat and sings about "The Cowboy In Me" while utilizing more image consultants than a Vogue fashion shoot. Hate him because he's so damn good at what he does. Whether you're an old-school country traditionalist or a card-carrying McGraw disciple, you can't deny the seamless production, hook-filled songcraft, and flawless vocal and instrumental performances that make up SET THIS CIRCUS DOWN. As on previous efforts, McGraw amiably combines country convention with pop-rock production. From the widescreen nostalgia of "Telluride" to the acoustic guitar-based ballad "Angry all the Time," ...
| | Poison Best Of Ballads & Blues CD (2003) Bonus Tracks
Greatest Hits songs
$6.89 Of all the hair-metal bands making the rounds in that genre's late-'80s heyday, Poison had a particular penchant for the art of the power ballad. For the uninformed, this is the type of song that often resulted in many Bics being flicked at arena shows and was oftentimes the quickest route to pop success for bands that might otherwise be too heavy for regular airplay. BEST OF BALLADS & BLUES cherry-picks the best bits from these former denizens of the Sunset Strip.
Even non-fans will instantly recognize the Meat Loaf-like title "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," and the inevitable late-'80s prom/wedding song "Something to Believe In" (in both regular and previously ...
| | 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of The Troggs CD (2004) Remastered
Greatest Hits album
$7.79 20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection: The Best of the Troggs is almost identical to the 1994 collection The Best of the Troggs released on Chronicles. This disc cuts two songs (the grungy "Gonna Make You" and the chugging "Surprise Surprise [I Need You]") and adds the ballad "Little Girl." The switch makes this collection inferior but it is still a fine place to get your hands on the best the Troggs have to offer. The set kicks off with the wild "Wild Thing" and jumps back and forth between the group's Neanderthal ...
| | Vanilla Fudge Then And Now CD (2004)
Greatest Hits CD music
$13.49 The title of the album is Then and Now, and a sticker on the front of the CD's jewel box proclaims, "The greatest hits! The best collection ever! Includes 3 new songs!" The clear implication to the potential buyer is that this Vanilla Fudge album contains the original 1960s recordings of such hits as "You Keep Me Hangin' On," along with three recently recorded tracks. But that is not the case. Then and Now is an entirely newly recorded album on which the 2004 edition of Vanilla Fudge -- bassist Tim Bogert, guitarist Vince Martell, drummer Carmine Appice, and organist Bill Pascali (replacing original member Mark Stein) -- recreates its versions of songs that appeared on its Atco Records albums and singles of the '60s. (On one track, "Need Love," Martell is replaced by Teddy Rondinelli, as ...
