ROGER HURRICANE WILSON'S second CD release "Live From The Eye Of The Storm" will be a true delight for bluesrock guitar fans. From the late 1970's through the mid 1980's Wilson was a music teacher that taught hundreds of students how to play guitar. When you listen to his first live CD on Hottrax Records, you'll both hear and experience the natural "blues feel" in his playing that cannot be taught. It is this natural "feel" or "musical expression" that constitutes the pure essence of the Blues.Any devotee of guitar trios will certainly enjoy this live CD that includes some truly great solo improvisations on seven catchy originals plus Chuck Berry's "Maybellene", John Lee Hooker's "Dimples", and Jerry Lee Lewis' "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On". This sophmore release of Wilson's is heavy on high energy and light on quiet places. It is easy to see why Roger Hurricane Wilson's husky baritone voice and taste for both power chords and fuzz-toned riffs complements his "take no prisoners" approach to blues-rock.
Personnel: Roger "Hurricane" Wilson (vocals, guitar); Ash Griffin (bass guitar); Butch Cooper (drums).
Recording information: Roswell Rhythm, Roswell, GA (12/22/1995).

| | Bunny Brunel Dedication CD (1992)
From The Eye Of The Storm music CDs
$20.25 Bunny Brunel is best-known as a virtuosic electric bassist who is featured in high-quality fusion settings. This particular recording is quite a bit different for Brunel is heard exclusively on acoustic bass, performing advanced jazz standards including pieces by Wayne Shorter, Steve Swallow, and Herbie Hancock along with two of the bassist's originals, "Stella by Starlight," Charlie Parker's "Relaxin' at Camarillo," and "Someday My Prince Will Come." Guitarist Mike Stern has plenty of solos, pianist Billy Childs gets in his spots, and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta is fine in support, but Brunel clearly controls the music. On the concluding "Twelve Bars for Leberstraum," Chick Corea guests on piano. Overall, this is one of Brunel's best jazz dates, and a bit of a surprise. ~ Scott Yanow

| | Charles Lyonhart Exception To The Rule CD (1998)
From The Eye Of The Storm songs
$17.09 WHO IS CHARLES LYONHART?"Walk into Charles Lyonhart's home and you see a framed photo of a baby-faced Bob Dylan in Woodstock, two all-access passes to Dylan tours and a report card tacked to a refrigerator. They tell you that Lyonhart is a devoted Dylan fan and proud father. Sit down at the cluttered kitchen table covered with a steel harmonica holder, notebooks of printed verses and envelopes containing songwriting royalty checks. They tell you that Lyonhart, of the Village of Florida, is a talented musician who writes published songs."-Stephen Israel /Times Herald Record"His songs-intelligent, cagey, capable of the restrained but still venomous bile of the romantically injured, the earnest pathos of an open spirit and the ironic wink of an on looking owl-are clearly not those of a novice, yet, almost paradoxically, they contain the focused enthusiasm and energy of a beginner. He brings a lot of special stuff to the table.-Gary Alexander /Woodstock Times"Somewhere between Oscar Wilde, Leonard Cohen and the land of the midnight sun, lurks Charles Lyonhart, a time traveling Celt. His heart exists to be broken for it is from those pulsating shards that his songs are mined:'-Sharlene Spingler/Soho Weekly News/San Francisco Review"It takes years to get experience and that's where Charles Lyonhart has it over many songwriters. He's been there and does that, for real. Charles Lyonhart is living in the moment, not waiting for anything. It's evident in the energy put forth in his songwriting, singing and performing. Chronicles of the loss of love, the loss of heroes, and the loss of days when there were actually heroes around:'-Stella Miller/Rhythm & News"He opens with something powerful. Your first clenches, keeping time. Another song, and a tear you never thought would fall begins to touch your cheek. Lyonhart has moved you. ...
| | Here Comes The Sharp Things CD (2002)
From The Eye Of The Storm album
$17.69 Perry Serpa and his band the Sharp Things craft a grandiose pop vibe -- part Scott Walker, part Elvis Costello -- on their debut, Here Comes the Sharp Things. Like Walker, Serpa's vocals are deep and grandiose, and his songwriting ranges from the Dylanesque "Boy's Club," to the straight-out-of-the-Bacharach-songbook "Vacationing." Serpa's influences make him the perfect American counterpart to Neil Hannon of England's the Divine Comedy, and the Sharp Things debut plays nicely as a companion to the Divine Comedy's Promenade. Less dark than Mercury Rev, less unhinged than the Flaming Lips, the Sharp Things' straightforward bombast sounds strange when compared to their contemporaries, but this record would have gone over big in the late '60s -- remember, Scott Walker's fan club at one point had more members than the Beatles' did. Still, beautifully arranged pop-folk, like the soaring, Bowie-esque "Lies About You and I," is timeless, and true fans of the genre will find this obscure gem and simply wear their copy out by playing it constantly. ~ Charles Spano
It all began back in the winter of 1995 when Perry Serpa escaped to rural Pennsylvania with drummer/co-conspirator Steven Gonzalez to record a demo of songs which he entitled The Sharp Things, based on a fictitious band he never expected to become tangible. Having long abandoned the twin pursuits of unattainable commercial success and equally unattainable indie credibility, he had taken to creating something closer to the sounds he heard inside his head and finally stopped torturing everybody. They mounted a series of shows at the predictable NYC haunts. Performing as a duo, with Perry on a not-very-well-played acoustic guitar and singing, the focus was, for the first time, on the pretty tunes. One of those shows, in August ...

From The Eye Of The Storm CD music

This viciously fresh and deeply compelling style of brutal, fragile, manic, alien art/rock/metal continues to grow and evolve as the band hones their knives. BLATHERSKITE'S"THREE WORLDS"BIRTH OF A NEW BAND RELEASEBlatherskite's "Three Worlds" release marked a turning point for the band, musically, personally and professionally. Spending two years in the making of this EP, Blatherskite did it all for themselves, with gig organising, ...
