Big Bang Busta Rhymes CD
Disco Circus songs While his output has been less than consistent, Busta Rhymes has always been one of the most distinctive and entertaining rappers in hip-hop. THE BIG BANG (2006) found Busta evolving as a stylist and a rhymesayer, slowing down his patented breakneck flow a bit while losing none of his agility, complexity, or precision. He also expanded the range of his narratives to include more introspective writing, though he still rocks a party on club tracks like "Touch It."
But the most notable thing here is the production. With the legendary Dr. Dre at the boards, THE ...

MFSB Mysteries Of The World CD (1980)
Disco Circus CD music By 1980, the disco boom that had supported the rise of MFSB was on its way out the door. Their stylish sound was in need of a makeover to keep up with the times, and this was accomplished by allowing Dexter Wansel, the producer/writer behind a string of jazzy solo albums like Life on Mars, to take the reins. The result was the stylish and jazzy Mysteries of the World. While this album is as mellow as the rest of the latter-period MFSB recordings, it never forgets the group's soul music underpinnings. For example, "Manhattan Skyline" fortifies its easygoing melody with a percolating, hard thumping bassline and some well timed blasts of horns. "Mysteries of the World" also keeps the new, softer style of MFSB from drifting into easy listening blandness by playing up the jazz underpinnings of the group's sound. For proof, look no further than the title track, which wraps an array of exploratory keyboard riffs around a busy bassline. Elsewhere, the album adds surprising little twists to keep things fresh: "Old San Juan" builds its mellow soul groove around an atypical flamenco guitar hook, and "In the Shadow" works an otherworldly synthesizer line into its bossa nova groove. The end result is an album that manages to bring a new freshness to their sound without completely severing ties with its old style. Mysteries of the World may be a little too soft and jazzy for funk fans accustomed to the likes of "Love Is the Message" and "T.S.O.P.," but it remains a fine album of jazz-inflected instrumentals that is likely to please anyone who likes soul music at its most elegant. ~ Donald A. King Crimson Compact King Crimson CD (1987)
Disco Circus buy CD music This 12-song compilation draws tracks from the early '80s incarnation of King Crimson, as well as from the 1969 debut of the original line-up. The contrasts between the two eras are striking, as is the common thread, namely founder and guitarist Robert Fripp. His structural, melodic and harmonic sensibilities gave the band its core identity. Though neither of the songwriting credits for "I Talk To the Wind" or "The Court Of the Crimson King" bear Fripp's name, his presence is so clearly articulated on both that they almost seem to be his alone.
Conversely, the band that reformed in the eighties (with Tony Levin, Bill Bruford, and Adrian Belew) shared writing credits with Fripp, though a song such as "Heartbeat" is most consistent with Belew's solo albums. Ultimately this is a well-sequenced set, with two-thirds of the selections from DISCIPLINE, BEAT and THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR, and the remainder (including the always staggering "21st Century Schizoid Man") culled from the first album.

East Down Septet Out Of Gridlock CD (1995)
Disco Circus buy CD music This intriguing post-bop group explores pieces by Andrew Hill, Ornette Coleman ("The Mothers of the Veil"), and Jaco Pastorius ("Three Views of a Secret") in addition to a variety of group originals and a "Suite from 'Taxi Driver'." The band sometimes recalls Charles Mingus' groups a little or that of Ornette, but generally sounds quite original. Trumpeter Ron Horton (whose way of improvising is a bit touched by that of Dave Douglas), tenor saxophonist Rich Rothenberg, Tom Varner on French horn, baritonist Jim Hartog, and guitarist Pete McCann have their share of solos, but it is the East Down Septet's group sound and the musicians' constant reactions to each other that makes this set different than the usual modern jazz date. The musicianship is impeccable, the playing is colorful, and each of the ten pieces holds one's interest. Recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
Recorded in New York in 1994.
East Down Septet includes: Ron Horton (trumpet); Tom Varner (French horn); Rich Rosenzweig (drums).
