Nancy Lamott Listen To My Heart Songs Listen To My Heart Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) THIS ONE FIRST .... the others next I must admit that I generally like cabaret singers best when I'm sitting in club. I never got a chance to see Nancy Lamott perform live. But on this album, she has a presence that transcends the limits of the medium. There are a few pop tunes, a bit of cabaret, a touching couple of singer songwriter songs (which somewhat oddly for a cabaret singer) are the two high points of the album. Annie Dinerman's "The Lady Down The Hall" and James Taylor's "The Secret O' Life".
In December,1995, I first heard a voice singing on the radio. The voice was very present, very open and very moving. I listened carefully to catch the singer's name. I heard it, prefixed by the word "late". The dj identified the singer as Nancy Lamott. Finding and losing such beauty in so short a span of time was a deeply moving.
She recorded several other albums, all of them quite lovely, but I started here. I think that everyone should. Submitted by dan (the cape) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
An artist at her peak This CD, Nancy's last and aruably her best, was recorded shortly before her untimely death at the age of 44. With this recording, she scaled above the usual CDs released by cabaret artists best known in New York and reached a new level, being compared to a young Rosemary Clooney and (favorably to) Barbra Streisand. Her recording of "Ordinary Miracles" indeed leaves Streisand's in the dust, and the other songs are all very special. It's hard to pick favorites, but her signature "Listen to My Heart" and the lovely "Not Exactly Paris" are thrilling in their beautiful simplicity."The Lady Down the Hall" by Annie Dinerman, and David Friedman's "I'll be Here With You" are also lovely. The arrangements by Christopher Marlowe and orchestrations by Peter Matz are a marvel - not overwhelming and overpowering, but thoughtful and elegant. If you are a Nancy LaMott fan, you must own this CD. If you're not yet a fan, what are you waiting for? Midder Music has folded and Nancy's CDs are hard to come by - so my advice is to buy any that you can, and DO NOT LEND THEM OUT - you'll never get them back! Second Marriage Listen to my heart, enabled me to see the man I loved and was able to commit to try again. He knew and heard all of the hurt and I knew and heard his hurt, we were able to acknowledge it after hearing her songs. | | Gibson & Camp At The Gate Of Horn CD (1961)
Listen To My Heart
$11.59 Recorded at The Gate Of Horn in Chicago, Illinois, in April 1961. Includes liner notes by Shel Silverstein and Richie Unterberger. Bob Gibson & Bob Camp at the Gate of Horn isn't an important album because of the music it contains (which will sound to most listeners like just another couple of white college guys singing old folk songs), but because of the possibilities ...
| | Anna Bergman Souvenir CD (2002)
Listen To My Heart
$12.25 Personnel: Anna Bergman, Ron Raines (vocals); Alex Rybeck (arranger, piano); Jered Egan (bass). Recorded at Westrax Recording Studios, New York, New York, Between June and September 2001. Includes liner notes by Kitty Carlisle Hart. Both operatic and cabaret performer, Anna Bergman's initial album was promoted as offering a taste of each with a few other styles in between. But the album has a definite bent for the operatic and semi-operatic. Her lovely contralto is heard on Johann Strauss lieder, Puccini arias, and Lehar waltzes. Ron Raines comes in for a semi-operatic rendition of Frank Loesser's "My Heart Is So Full of You" from the Broadway hit The Most Happy Fella. These pieces dominate this CD. Clearly ...
