| | Peter White Good Day CD (2009)
Angel CD music
$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists who have contributed to smooth jazz (including George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Chuck Loeb, and Henry Johnson). Musically, a lot has changed since the '60s, but the more things change in ...

| | Nancy Lamott Beautiful Baby CD (1991)
Angel music CDs
$13.35 This album, Nancy LaMott's first, was originally released in 1991 and then reissued in 1996, shortly after her tragic death from uterine cancer. Even at this, the outset of her recording career, she shows all the moves needed to be a top-of-the-list cabaret singer. Not content to simply recite the story of the lyrics, each track is a separate dramatic event filled with just the right emotional intensity to fit the character of the song she is singing. For "It Might as Well Be Spring" there's a feeling of yearning, while "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby" starts off cute and ends up on the barroom floor. On the latter she engages in some slow-motion give and take with the trumpet of long-time session player Glenn Drewes. "Blues Skies" is a production with LaMott treating it like a hymn at the start, then with each successive chorus the tempo picks up speed, with the rest of the rhythm section joining in with Christopher Marlowe as LaMott's coda is a note somewhere ...

$9.95 "What would comedy be without taboo? Fortunately for The Whitest Kids U' Know, a quintet of New York 20-somethings, there are still plenty of taboos to break, and in a series of squirmingly hilarious skits, the group riffs on date rape, domestic violence and racism, (finding) a fresh angle on even the most heavily exploited forbidden topic of Adolf Hitler." - New York Times, January 27th, 2006The Whitest Kids U’ Know have spent the last two years writing and performing a new show every week in New York City's Lower East Side. Their ...

| | Oh Crap Ninjas Oh Crap! Ninjas CD (2008)
Angel album
$11.39 Every year they come. They come to Los Angeles and another song, another record - another band is born. And sometimes, throughout all the timely songs, dustbin records, and forgotten groups, comes a band that is neither defined by its roots nor confined by the goings-on of their peers. It is their time. And they are called Oh Crap! Ninjas.Combining the radio-friendliness of Switchfoot, the soulfulness of The Fray, and the energy and drive of Foo Fighters, Oh Crap! Ninjas delivers a memorable mixture of progressive and alternative-flavored Pop Rock. Sometimes filled with bright textures, other times sparse and moody, the music of Oh Crap! Ninjas is always melodic and lyrically poignant.David Gielan, vocals and guitar, Oh Crap! Ninjas' principle songwriter and founder, paid his musical dues early, touring the U.S. with Garage Rock favorite Gizmo at the tender age of 14 and sharing bills with Indie Rock darlings Trans Am (Thrill Jockey) and Vertical Horizon (RCA). Gielan, equally skilled at singing, guitar, violin, piano, drums, and producing, furthered his playing and burgeoning songwriting at Berklee College of Music, whose attendees include Grammy-winning and multi-platinum artists Paula Cole and John Mayer. David, who has gone on to develop a noteworthy solo career, which includes a nomination from the Los Angeles Music Awards in 2005 for "Male Singer/Songwriter of the Year", writes songs that seem to come from a dark place, yet are melodically-driven, a contrasting formula which makes Oh Crap! Ninjas' sound, all its own.Oh Crap! Ninjas' sonic strength comes from the Bass playing and producing of Frogs (Ryan McCormack). Frogs, a Berklee College Of Music graduate, has made his livelihood from music, touring the states year-round with groups such as The Neon Calm, Lucy Lawless, and David Hasselhoff. Frogs' masterful locomotion and use of a commanding technical style allow a platform for Jesse Beckman (Lead Guitar) to shine. Each of these musicians are accomplished in their own right and have all recorded with some of the nation's top acts.Oh Crap! Ninjas' self titled debut effort, is a full fledged DIY production. Producing the entire album themselves, Oh Crap! Ninjas stayed true to their musical vision in a resounding and formidable way leaving the listener anxious for more, staying out of the confines of industry standards, creating a sound that can stand against any of today’s top selling albums. After receiving a 2006 nomination from the Los Angeles Music Awards (“Rock Album of the Year”) for their work on a previous album “In High Def”, “Oh Crap! Ninjas” continues the movement, creating substantial buzz in all mediums, including television, radio, and the web. Whether it be airplay of their breakout single, Fallen, on iTunes and college radio stations ...
