Personnel: Emmylou Harris (vocals, acoustic guitar); Hank DeVito (acoustic & electric guitars, pedal steel guitar, dobro); Paul Kennerley (acoustic & electric guitars); Barry Tashian, Bobby Thompson (acoustic guitar, banjo); Emory Gordy, Jr. (acoustic guitar, bass); Albert Lee (guitar, mandolin); Vince Gill (electric guitar, background vocals); Ray Flacke (electric guitar); Philip Donelly (electric slide guitar); Waylon Jennings (guitar); Buddy Spicher (fiddle); Steve Cash, Gary Scruggs (harmonica); Bessyl Duhon (accordion); Shane Keister, John Jarvis (keyboards); Larrie Londin (drums, percussion); Russ Kunkel (drums); Tom Roady (percussion); Gail Davies, Barbara Cowart, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt (background vocals). Recorded at Treasure Isle Studios, Nashville, Tennessee. This is one of the most intriguing albums of Emmylou Harris' career, and that is saying a lot. It marked the first album where she wrote or co-wrote all the songs, and the strength of the songwriting makes one wonder why she had never attempted it before. One can tell that this album is truly a labor of love, as it is a semi-autobiographical concept album that she also co-produced. It tells the story of a girl from a small town who gets taken under the wing of singer that takes her (and her angelic voice) out on the road. (The story mirrors her relationship with Gram Parsons, although it is a fictional account of the life of another woman.) As a concept album, it only partly holds together; one must read the liner notes to get a true feeling for the story. However, Emmylou Harris sounds particularly inspired, and the songs themselves are strong both musically and lyrically. As expected, she truly shines on the slower ballads such as "Diamond in My Crown" and the closer "Sweet Chariot." While not essential for casual fans, it is an interesting album worth tracking down for Emmylou Harris fans. ~ Vik Iyengar

Great storytelling with songs! This CD is the only one in which Emmy Lou tells a complete story through songs. The music and lyrics are exceptional from beginning to end - The listener will become a participant through toe stomping, tear jerking, "impossible to resist" music! $13.05 This album is a tribute to, and in memory of, "DIMEBAG" DARRELL. It was absolutely one of his favorite projects. He loved the people involved and the music that transpired.Rebel Meets Rebel is not only the title of the CD, but the most apt description of what you are about to hear. There is no other music like it in the world. It is a combination of one of the world's greatest Heavy Metal Bands and David Allan Coe, one of the world's most outspoken, hell raizin, country outlaws of the past century. The combination of DAC and CFH (Cowboys from Hell) is explosive and works flawlessly to produce a new musical genre as yet un-named.Get ready for a hell raizin' time ... the boys are kickin' ass!!!!
Rebel Meets Rebel: Rex Brown (bass guitar); David Allan Coe, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul. Personnel: David Allan Coe (vocals); Dimebag Darrell (guitar); Vinnie Paul (drums). Additional personnel: Joey Floyd (fiddle); Rex Mauney (keyboards); Hank Williams III (background vocals). Recording information: Chasin Jason Studios, Dalworthington Gardens, TX (1999-2003). Photographer: Chad Lee. In the 1970s, you had "outlaw country," in the '80s, "cowpunk," but they'll need a new and original stylistic descriptor for 2006's REBEL MEETS REBEL, a no-holds-barred collaboration between hard-living, outlaw country legend David Allan Coe and three-quarters of Texas thrash-metal heroes Pantera. Recorded before Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott's shocking onstage murder in 2004, this album matches Abbott's slamming metal riffs with Coe's unapologetic tough-guy stance, a combination that makes perfect thematic and musical sense. It's a real kick in the teeth. Rebel Meets Rebel is the result of a lengthy collaboration between Pantera's rhythm section and outlaw country legend David Allan Coe. The partnership began in the late '90s with Coe and Dimebag Darrell meeting in Fort Worth and discovering they were kindred spirits. They decided to record together in 1999, and over the next four years, Coe, Dimebag, and Pantera's rhythm section recorded sporadically. Those sessions were released as Rebel Meets Rebel in 2006, two years after Dimebag's tragic on-stage murder while playing with the group Damageplan. Rebel Meets Rebel in no way attempts to blend the styles of heavy metal and country -- rather it just throws them together, one on the top of the other, at times outweighing each other. The result is two completely different sounds crashing together and creating something entirely new out of the smashed remnants. The album's first track, "Nothin' to Lose," hits hard with a White Zombie-esque intro, ...
