The Lonesome Touch finds Martin Hayes and guitarist Dennis Cahill turning in another collection of lovely, suprisingly innovative Irish folk and celtic music. Hayes and Cahill keep within the traditions of the music, but open it up with luxurious space and inventive phrasing. Like their previous collection, Under the Moon, it's a pretty, enchanting record that shows how Irish music can move forward without losing its roots. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Celtic Martin Hayes Lonesome Touch Songs Lonesome Touch Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Lost Sublime, celestial. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with those terms.
I know of no musician who gets so lost in his music. And he takes you with him.
Martin is a consummate technician. But his magic lies in his total immersion in his tunes. You cannot listen to the man without being mesmerized and elevated. If you want to spend time spiralling thermals with gyrfalcons, here is the way.
He can fire off a fast jig to beat the band. But the beauty of his music lies in the delicacy with which his bow caresses slow airs. He seems to be able to place it in their own hands and becomes a medium, channelling utter and pure emotion.
Martin is the hero of celtic fiddlers across the globe. They are onto something.
See him live if you can. If not, "Lonesome Touches" will give you a solid taste of supreme proficiency dancing slowly to sublime interpretation.

The Gliding Music
This album is fantastic , the tunes themselves may be traditional , but the freedom with which they are played is the most evident aspect of this music , there is a free and gliding quality to this music , indeed it sounds almost celestial at times ! This album is his best , in my opinion , for it is here that he is at his most sublime , and this sublimity is not subtle - it is as alive and as apparant as an ocean . I recommend this album , in essence , because it will take the listener to a very nice place , and perhaps alert the listener to the existence of Genius . So you think you know Sheryl Crow, eh? Well, the closest thing to what one might consider a "trademark" Crow tune on C'MON, C'MON is probably "Soak up the Sunshine," whose ironic good-timey feel and slide guitar recall TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB. "You're An Original" is a ' 70s-style bluesy hard-rocker whose stylistic bent is further underlined by the guest vocal appearance of Lenny Kravitz. The low-key "Safe and Sound" combines Beatlesque chord progressions with contemporary R&B loops for an interesting meld of sounds. The plangent guitars of the title track are the most obvious example of Crow's debt to early-'70s rock, with passages that seem to have EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY stamped all over them. The cheesecake inner-booklet photos and incongruous presence of Gwyneth Paltrow on "It's Only Love"
