How about a band that evokes Beck's melodic pop, Donovan's gentle voice, and the pastel-colored textures of the Sea And Cake? How about a band that sounds as if it'd be equally at home covering Dave Brubeck or Hawkwind? Add touches of hip-hop scratching, sitar, backwards tapes, and a trumpet player with chops. For Calliope, it all works. Despite the band's disparate influences, nothing sounds forced or pretentious on the group's third release, IN ORGANICS. It's among the most adventurous--yet focused--discs to date from the group.

Calliope (In) Organics Songs (In) Organics Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) I listened and listened, for days, weeks, years On their third full length, the Motor City quartet Calliope successfully meld several genres with their slo-core space rock. Each song being the distinct offspring of some unlikely unions. "7/30" is born suitable for happy-hour music in the lounge of Space Station Mir, while trip-hop trash can beats propel the vinyl scratcher "Umbra" to the loading dock dance floor. "She’s got the way" provides the monster rock riffs to oppose the closing drones and despondent tones of "Despacio" and "Signals" (the latter takes the sounds of the human heart to an all-new eerie level by way of an echo-cardiogram and a drum machine). The album never abandons the dichotomy suggested by the record title, especially in the opening track "Did you get what you came for?" featuring a sitar and tabla sharing atmospheric territory with effects-laden guitar work and straight forward vocals from J. Andy Dryer. Nor does the album allow any moment to lazily lapse; rather the compositions tend to be tautly filled with subdued energy always on the brink of a soft explosion. Despite its deliberation, (in)organics comes across quite effortlessly. If our collective musical consciousness is moving toward a tempered, refrained, sophisticated yet hypnotic sound, then at the forefront of this halcyon movement must be Calliope. $10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting ...

$12.65 TIGER TIGER“CELEBRATES THE NATIVE AMERICAN ROCK MOVEMENT!”www.tigertigermusic.com Miami, FL (PR Web) January 17, 2007 Inspired by the nature of the Florida Everglades, their American Indian culture and Chief Buffalo Tiger (their Father) of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, the Tiger Tiger Band career highlights include initial recordings at Woodstock (later released in Germany on Sony’s ZYX label).Based in Miami, Florida national recording artists Tiger Tiger have headlined and graced the stages for numerous festivals and concerts over the years. They were featured in the First Miami Pop Festival along with Jimi Hendrix, Procol Harum, & Led Zeppelin. In fact the actual jacket that Lee Tiger wore on stage at the first Miami Pop Festival in May 1968 has recently been put on permanent display in the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. The jacket was designed and created by Stephen Tiger. At The Seminole Tribes Big Rock Pow Wow they performed with Chicago, Edgar & Johnnie Winter. These accomplished and respected musicians were requested by Chuck Berry & Bo Diddley to be their backing band. Tiger Tiger’s last commercially released album Southern Exposure received a Grammy nomination. Their self-produced music video Lay Your Burden Down took second place for Best Music Video at the 2000 American Indian Film Festival in San Francisco. The Tigers have recently completed their most exciting Native American cultural CD, Peace From The Everglades, Dedicated to the Survival of the Miccosukee & Seminole People of Florida. This CD received two NAMMY nominations in 2005, for Best Pop/Rock Recording & Song/Single of the Year for Heya. In 2006 Tiger Tiger received the Lifetime Achievement Award from NAMMY (Native American Music Awards) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. This would be Stephen’s final appearance.Tiger Tiger recently finished recording, Native to this Country. The album was released End of 2006. Future plans include touring and promotional opportunities in support of the new CD.One of the first steps in Tiger Tiger transition was for Lee to find band members that would compliment the sound the original Tiger Tiger had carefully crafted. Lee felt the best match would be in Stephen’s son, Joey, a female back up singer, Monique Diabo, who’s addition gives native flavor with a contemporary ...
