1998 album for Columbia by the veteran Australianalternative rock act. 12 tracks, including the singles'White Skin Black Heart', 'Cemetery In My Mind' and 'RedneckWonderland'. The album's sound is reminiscent of their 1983album '10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1'.
Midnight Oil: Jim Moginie (vocals, guitar, keyboards, synthesizer); Bones Hillman (vocals, bass); Rob Hirst (vocals, drums); Peter Garrett (vocals); Martin Rotsey (guitar). Additional personnel: Hope Csutoros (violin); Helen Mountford (cello); Jeremy Smith (French horn). Recorded at Sing Sing Studios, Melbourne, Australia and Electric Avenue, Sydney, Australia. Aussie rockers Midnight Oil have achieved success all across the globe, and REDNECK WONDERLAND helped cement their reputation on its release in 1998. For this, its 12th full-length album, Midnight Oil re-hired producer Warne Livesey, who had worked with them on their biggest international successes, Diesel and Dust and Blue Sky Mining. He helped them to achieve a sound that was a virtual compendium of familiar late-'60s rock styles -- Led Zeppelin on the title track, the Beatles on "Safety Chain Blues," the Who on "Blot," the Beach Boys on "Drop in the Ocean." At least, that was true musically; the vocals were sometimes so compressed they sounded like they were coming out of a bullhorn. Given the lyrics, that was appropriate, since the album was, as the band's press bio put it, "written and recorded in response to the rise of anti-Asia MP Pauline Hanson and her far-right One Nation Party." Outside of Australia, that could make the songs difficult to understand completely, although, for example, the environmentalist sense of "Concrete" and "Seeing Is Believing" were unmistakable, and the group's anger fueled its performances. Still, lines like "triumphalism gotta be a curse or even worse" probably sent more fans to the dictionary than the barricades. In Australia, the album went Top Ten, though it failed to chart in the U.S., which is less an indication of its local focus than of the group and/or its record company's diminished interest in the international market. ~ William Ruhlmann

$9.79 This is a collection of NOFX tracks from various compilations, 7"s and EPs, plus a previously unreleased song and dub remix. 45 or 46 Songs That Weren't Good Enough to Go on Our Other Records has to be one of the longest, and greatest, album titles of all time. However, for you pedants out there, it's also far from accurate. These songs may not have been up to NOFX album standards, but all, bar one, were considered worthy for release on 7" singles, EPs, or compilations. And that one exception is a new song. All told, this comes close to bringing together much of the group's vinyl-only releases and tough to find numbers from indie compilations. Close, but obviously not all, as Fat Mike chose to deliberately omit songs so as not to wreck the "coolness" value of owning the originals. Of course, all 47 (to be precise) of these songs ...

Early in his country music career, JERRY had written a Jimmie Rodgers tribute song, which caught the attention of Mrs. Rodgers. He later met personally with her and they became close friends. She offered a lot of help and encouragement in his career and used her influence to get him acquainted with another country star he admired, ERNEST TUBB who had JERRY as a guest performer on his legendary radio show - MIDNIGHT JAMBOREE * broadcast over the great WSM Radio, Nashville. He later featured JERRY as a special guest on a recorded rendition of that show - along with his Texas Troubadours and other special guests. On that album, JERRY performed the Harlan Howard song, "BOY WITH A FUTURE", a song that is still recognized by country DJ's and country fans around the world. Jerry became deeply involved in country music while serving in the U.S.Air Force, writing songs and participated in the Air Force "Tops In Blue" entertainment show.
