Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas DVD (1998)
Born Too Loose - Best Of songs FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS is a whirlwind of a movie, a wacky, drug-laden story backed by a fist-pumping rock & roll soundtrack featuring everything from Wayne Newton and Tom Jones to Combustible Edison and Dead Kennedys. Journalist Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) heads to Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, bringing along his Samoan lawyer, Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro), in this furious adaptation of the book by Hunter S. Thompson. It is 1971, and Duke and Gonzo are on their way to Sin City with a frightened hitchhiker (a nearly unrecognizable Tobey Maguire) and a trunkful of drugs, which they ingest nonstop. Depp is terrific as Duke, Thompson's alter ego, and Del Toro is a riot as the crazy lawyer. To perfect his Thompsonian performance, Depp spent a lot of time with the good doctor, and it paid off in a film that captures the frenetic pace of the counterculture novel. Director Terry Gilliam, a master of complex, bizarre visual imagery, has a field day interpreting the drug-hazed world in which Duke and Gonzo reside. An all-star cast chimes in with wonderfully offbeat bit parts, including Harry Dean Stanton, Gilliam regular Katherine Helmond, Flea, Cameron Diaz, Ellen Barkin, Christina Ricci, Gary Busey, Lyle Lovett, and others.
When a writing assignment lands journalist Raoul Duke and sidekick Dr. Gonzo in Las Vegas, they decide to make it the ultimate business trip. But before long, business has been forgotten and trip has become the key word. Fueled by a suitcase full of mind-bending pharmaceuticals, Duke and Gonzo set off on a fast and furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever. But no matter where misadventure leads them. Stars Benicio Del Toro, Cameron Diaz, Christina Ricci, Christopher Meloni, Craig Bierko, Ellen Barkin, Flea, ...

Richard Hell & the Voidoids Blank Generation CD (1977)
Born Too Loose - Best Of album for sale Richard Hell And The Voidoids: Richard Hell (vocals, electric bass); Robert Quine, Ivan Julian (electric guitar, background vocals); Marc Bell (drums).
BLANK GENERATION is now widely regarded as one of the seminal points in the punk explosion, along with the Sex Pistols' NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS HERE'S THE SEX PISTOLS and The Ramones debut. It is a startling, urgent record filled with the pent-up frustration and nihilistic despair that earmarked the potency of the late '70s punk movement. Former Television member Hell, however, was considerably more well read than the bulk of his punk counterparts, a circumstance that ups the ante on BLANK GENERATION.
The title track has become one of punk's signature tunes, and it certainly seems to embody the entire spirit of the movement in one fell swoop. Although Hell has repeatedly insisted that the title refers to "blank" as in "fill in the...", it was taken literally, and the deep-seated nihilism struck a resounding chord. The Voidoids themselves helped in no small part make BLANK GENERATION a touchstone. Guitar greats Ivan Julian and Robert Quine provide a searing backdrop on the title track, "Love Comes In Spurts," as well as a weirdly straight reading of Sinatra's "All the Way."
Originally Released In 1977, This 12 Track Was Richard Hell's 1St Album.
Recorded at Plaza Sound and Electric Lady Studios, New York, New York.

Mike Ness Cheating at Solitaire CD (1999) Top Seller
Born Too Loose - Best Of CD music One of the things that always set Social Distortion apart from the rest of the '80s California punks was their incorporation of twangy country/rockabilly into their driving sound. They wound up covering everything from "Ring of Fire" to Jimmy Work's "Making Believe" without sacrificing a bit of sonic fury. With Social D. frontman Mike Ness' solo debut, it becomes apparent that most of those country leanings came from him.
On CHEATING AT SOLITAIRE, Ness is freed to further explore his rootsy Americana influences, from straight country and bluegrass treatments of original tunes to covers of "Long Black Veil," Hank Williams's "You Win Again" and Dylan's "Don't Think Twice." Naturally, Ness attacks much of this material with the same punk-inspired brute force and unflinching lyrical realism that made Social Distortion a success, and it makes CHEATING AT SOLITAIRE an intriguing chapter in Ness' continually unfolding musical story.

Dinosaur Jr. Ear-Bleeding Country: The Best of Dinosaur Jr. CD (2001)
Born Too Loose - Best Of buy CD music Recorded between 1985 and 2000. Includes liner notes by Byron Coley.
Digitally remastered by Dave Donnelly (DNA Mastering Studios).
Dinosaur Jr. first emerged (as simply Dinosaur) from the Massachusetts punk scene in the mid-1980s with provoking, genre-bending-with-just-a-dollop-of-pop releases on stalwart indie labels Homestead and SST. With J. Mascis' hauntingly off-key half-growl, half-howl lurking under layers and layers of distortion, fuzz, and drone, they were locks to bend the ear of an adoring underground radio cult, but the longest of shots to garner million-selling records, let alone touch the pop charts. However, Dinosaur Jr. did all of the above, ruling college radio for almost a decade in the late-'80s and early-'90s, selling a ton of albums, even scoring a MTV Buzz bin aided Billboard pop hit in 1994 with "Feel the Pain." In true indie-rock fashion, after that hit Dinosaur Jr. faded out after one mostly forgettable final album.
The aptly named EAR-BLEEDING COUNTRY evenly collects cuts chronologically from Dinosaur Jr.'s seven albums, an EP, a single, while also including a couple tracks from J. Mascis' more subtle, yet still oddball and compelling non-Dinosaur recordings. Of special note is the inclusion of the at first glance mocking, yet in reality furiously reverent cover of the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" and the Beatlesque jagged-horn-laden "I'm Insane" originally hidden on the aforementioned final album.
Producers include: Dinosaur Jr., J. Mascis.
Compilation producer: Hillary Bratton.

So Alone CD (1978)
Born Too Loose - Best Of album for sale Thunders' classic debut album remains his magnum opus. Recorded after his post-New York Dolls band, the Heartbreakers, imploded, SO ALONE features a surprisingly eclectic bunch of backing musicians. It's not just Thunders' punk cronies; don't be surprised to find ex-Sex Pistols (Paul Cook and Steve Jones) and ex-Small Faces (Steve Marriott) on the same track (a very cool version of "Daddy Rollin' Stone).
It's Thunders album all the way, however, with his sloppy guitar, endearingly nasal vocals, and trash rock roots front and center. The album's masterwork, and Thunders' finest moment, is the aching ballad "You Can't Put Your Arm Around a Memory." However, just about everything here, including "London Boys" (a gleefully catchy response to the Sex Pistols "New York") and the hilarious cover of the Shangri-Las "Great Big Kiss"--oozes the best sort of rock and roll attitude. Bonus tracks include the previously unreleased title song, and a nice cover of Marc Bolan's "The Wizard."
Following the drug-fueled implosion of the Heartbreakers, Johnny Thunders bounced back with this first solo outing. The featured players include a veritable who's who of '70s punk and hard rock - Chrissie Hynde, Phil Lynott, Paul Gray & Steve Nichol (Eddie & The Hot Rods), Peter Perrett & Mike Kellie (Only Ones), Steve Marriott, Paul Cook and Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) and more. Much like Thunders' best work with the Dolls and Heartbreakers, "So Alone" is a gloriously sloppy amalgam of R&B, doo-wop, and three-chord rock & roll. A cover of the Chantays' classic instrumental "Pipeline" leads things off and is a teasing reminder of what a great guitarist Thunders could be when he put his mind to it. The record's indisputable masterpiece is "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory," a wrenching, surprisingly literate ballad in which Thunders seems to acknowledge that his junkie lifestyle has doomed him to the abyss.

John Cale Island Years CDs (1996)
Born Too Loose - Best Of CD music THE ISLAND YEARS includes songs from the albums FEAR, SLOW DAZZLE and HELEN OF TROY as well as other selections.
John Cale, a founding member of the Velvet Underground, has been an influence on two or more generations of rockers. Cale produced the debut albums by Iggy & The Stooges, Patti Smith and Squeeze, and collaborated with minimalist composer/icon Terry Riley and avant-rock composer/producer Brian Eno, among others. He also managed to put out a unique and singular body of solo work. Many fans and critics consider his albums on the Island label from the mid-1970s to be his best. The albums FEAR, SLOW DAZZLE and HELEN OF TROY (the latter previously available in the USA as an import only) have been collected on a 2-CD set, with six previously unreleased songs.
During his Island tenure, Cale composed and performed some of the most stark, enigmatic, and melodically appealing pop and rock & roll songs ever. The songs cover a wide range of style and tone from the evocative "Buffalo Ballet" to the ominous, Doors-like rocker "Momamma Scuba" to Cale's shimmering tribute to the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, "Mr. Wilson." THE ISLAND YEARS, along with PARIS 1919 and WORDS FOR THE DYING, is a superb representation of Cale's best, most inspired work.
Excellent double disc collection that culls his three studio albums on Island Records ("Fear", "Slow Dazzle", "Helen Of Troy") and the spare track "Mary Lou" from the greatest hits compilation "Guts" plus a bevy of bonus tracks (b-sides and previously unreleased gems) to boot.
